With Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale holding a few big tickets from MGM books, Stoneback and his crew are certainly Nationals fans tonight. But MGM’s position isn’t as tenuous as other operators, most notably William Hill US, Circa Sports, DraftKings and FanDuel.
“We won’t be too bad with the futures and series betting, considering how much we’d lose to him,” Stoneback said from his home base at The Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip. “We’ll lose mid-six figures to the Astros, and we’d win close to seven figures with the Nationals.”
McIngvale holds the following tickets at MGM books: $500,000 Astros +160 to win the World Series, made two weeks ago; $300,000 Astros +220 to win World Series, before Game 3, with Houston trailing 2-0; and $25,000 Astros 4/1 to win in seven games, also bet before Game 3. In addition, after Houston’s Game 1 loss, MGM’s Beau Rivage book in Mississippi took a $600,000 on the Astros to win World Series, to win $500,000.
That’s a total of $1.325 million dollars in wagers, to win approximately $2 million.
By contrast, action on Game 7 itself is barely a blip on the radar. MGM books opened Astros -140/Nationals +120 and haven’t budged off either number.
“It’s quiet right now, not even much of a decision,” Stoneback said at lunch hour in Vegas. “We took some sharp money on Nationals moneyline first five innings. The worst-case scenario on the game is that we lose $6,000, best-case scenario is we win $10,000. But we had a guy put $100,000 on the Nationals last night about a half-hour before the game. I’m sure he’s still around.”
The bigger issue is all that futures and series liability, pretty much all from Mattress Mack. But that will help lend itself to what Stoneback expects to be a great atmosphere in the sportsbooks tonight.
“I imagine there will be a flurry of money tonight, being it is a Game 7. Any sports fan in the hotel is gonna want to watch it," Stoneback said. "I’m sure it’ll be pretty crazy at the counter about an hour before game time.”

So you wager 700k on a negative spread and end up with an underdog payout if you win? Huh?

$700,000/135 = $518,518.50

He gets back his $700k plus the $518k thus $1,218,518.50:103631605
