I don't know what to believe. However, one thing that sticks out to me is the Canucks' schedule. If you look at their remaining games, they do very little traveling. Other than a two game trip to Nashville/Atlanta, and a three game trip to Eastern Canada, they will be in the West for the rest of the year. They have already completed all their long road trips, and I really think this could weigh on Sundin's decision. Plus, the team has performed above expectations this season, and he might now realize that they have a shot to make a run if he joins up. Finally, perhaps this deadline is Thursday because he does not want to rain on Trevor Linden's parade? Say what you want about Mats, he is a very classy guy, and this last point makes a lot of sense, if he does indeed choose Vancouver.
On the plus side for the Rangers, they have the ability to move some salary out of the way (Korpikoski, etc), to get ~ $2.5 million in cap room. That might be enough for Sundin to choose them, if he really wants a cup.
Personally, I'm glad this is coming to an end. I'd rather have Linden come out of retirement, but Sundin would be great for Vancouver's chances.
