We find out Thursday where he wants to play or where he will be playing.

Who do you guys think it will be?

seems like Rangers and Nucks are in the main running.
Personally i would of course like to see him in a blue shirt.

I think it will all depend on how much $ he is looking for.

It will come down to the money, the potential to win a Stanley Cup, and which Swedes court him between now and then (ie. the Sedins/Ohlund or Naslund).

rangers have less than 1 million under the cap to sign him. i cant see how they possibly can afford him. they have 55 million committed to players salaries right now according to nhlnumbers.com

No matter where he chooses, if you like the Canucks, buy your Vancouver futures today. No matter what their team is sure to improve today. The only way the Rangers get him is to move considerable salary and the Canucks are he only team out there that has room on the salary cap.

It really makes no sense to me why the Rangers would blow up their team to take him on.

Don't believe all the "I want to win a cup" bullshit. He had his chance to win a cup last year and he wouldn't waive his no trade. Sundin's a mercenary. You think he's not going to take a multi-year contract for $10 mil per?

Get him outside of the east where he doesn't play in Toronto for the rest of the year. Vancouver is a perfect fit for him in every way.

Here’s the direct quote from their Twitter: “Bob McCown reports a source close to Mats Sundin says he will sign with the New York Rangers any day now.”

Rumor in philly is sundin rejected an offer the flyers made him which was more then what the rangers could possibly offer him, so i say he is leaning towards the NUCKS, unless the Rangers have a trade in place once he agrees to join them so they can move salary, or they would have to place someone on waivers.

You should hear the radio boards out here in vcr......according to all the snake bit fans there is no way in hell he is coming.

Frankly I am really tired of the whole thing remember we have had an offer on the table since July 1st so we have been talking sundin in vcr for 6 months.

Heres what it comes down too...

I think that the rangers offer less money a better shot at the cup through the eastern conference - less travel & bright lights of Manhatten where he will be a star but blend in.

Vcr offers more money - maybe a chance at the conference finals but San Jose will need to slow down a bit - most of our heavy travel is done - The swedes & nothern euros like playing in vcr - but he will not be allowed to sneeze with out the media critiquing his performance.

Oh yeah you want to talk about rumours - one thing for sure sundin is very tight lipped so don't believe a word of what you hear in the media it is all spectulation.

Further proof that the media's primary purpose is propogate rumors and sell air time. Apparently next year we are getting Marian Hossa and Marion Gaborik at discounts so they can play together with Demetria.

:ohno:

Good grief

on a side note

Trevor linden retirement night in VCR - the beginning of the season the canucks did a tribute to luc burdon (further proof the nucks are snake bit) - All that did was fire up the canucks and they smoked the flames.

I don't know what to believe. However, one thing that sticks out to me is the Canucks' schedule. If you look at their remaining games, they do very little traveling. Other than a two game trip to Nashville/Atlanta, and a three game trip to Eastern Canada, they will be in the West for the rest of the year. They have already completed all their long road trips, and I really think this could weigh on Sundin's decision. Plus, the team has performed above expectations this season, and he might now realize that they have a shot to make a run if he joins up. Finally, perhaps this deadline is Thursday because he does not want to rain on Trevor Linden's parade? Say what you want about Mats, he is a very classy guy, and this last point makes a lot of sense, if he does indeed choose Vancouver.

On the plus side for the Rangers, they have the ability to move some salary out of the way (Korpikoski, etc), to get ~ $2.5 million in cap room. That might be enough for Sundin to choose them, if he really wants a cup.

Personally, I'm glad this is coming to an end. I'd rather have Linden come out of retirement, but Sundin would be great for Vancouver's chances.

It has been well document that a decision would be made before the christmas trade freeze & he will join a team the first week of January.

Today there is an article at covers about the topic and the agent jp barry is quoted as saying the decision would be made thursday.

Buck and I are little closer to the topic b/c it is on the sports radio here in vcr constantly.

Buck you can't be serious about taking trev over matts. Linden is a class guy and I liked having him here alot, but the skill difference is emence.

I'm biased on Trev... favourite Canuck of all time. Yah, Sundin much more skilled... but all that pokerstars shit is concerning. Takes away from his training.

Mats Sundin is waiting for the Rangers to clear enough cap space to present him with a full-season $6 million contract offer before he commits to joining the Blueshirts, The Post has learned.

Thus, with the NHL holiday roster freeze going into effect Friday night at midnight and lasting through midnight Dec. 27, Sundin - who has a $10M offer on the table from the Canucks that he obviously is in no hurry to accept - is likely to remain unsigned until late in the month.

The 37-year-old former Toronto captain had recently established Friday as his target date for committing to one of the two finalists bidding for him, but unless Rangers GM Glen Sather can engineer multiple moves within the next day, that soft deadline will not be met.

Thus, if Sundin were ready to go the first week of January, the Blueshirts would have to have approximately $3.2M of space in order to accommodate Sundin's need for a $6M contract. With $1 million currently available, the Rangers could not clear the necessary space merely by deleting Petr Prucha and Dan Fritsche from the roster.

SKATE: I dont think he'll retire I think he will want to play in the 2010 Olympics. Which happen to be in Vancouver he should come to play for the Cancuks so he can learn how to figure out Luongo.

VIC: That report is nothing new except the fact that should be pointed out that when JP Barry left New York earlier this week there was no contract offer given.

I hope he doesnt retire as I would love to see him in action again like most. But I am sick of this waiting BS like we dealt with all summer and again now. Its almost turning into the Brett Favre drama but not as publicly sanctioned lol
