Remeber a couple of months ago, when people were talking about Pedro not having anything left on his fastball, and after Maddux got hit hard a couple of times, people were saying his best years were behind him, etc....
People were saying Martinez was past his dominant prime, and was hittable again...
Well........the tide has turned again..
With a month left to go in the season, Pedro is now 15-5, with a 3.55 era in a very hitter-friendly park....he has given up no runs in 2 of his last 5 starts, and struck out 9 in 7 innings tonight...
And Maddux, the crafty veteran, returned to his former team, in what seemed like a ceremonial move possibly, just to see him reach his 300th win....now with a month to go, he leads, what was supposed to be the best pitching staff in the NL in wins, has reached 300, and is now just 2 wins shy of setting a major league record for winning 15 games a year, for 17 years.....He has a 13-8 record, and a 3.70 era with Wrigley Field as a home park...
Pretty impressive turnarounds for 2 aces, who struggled early on.....
Just seems that the cream rises to the top, and these 2 just keep rising this year....
Could prove very tough in the post season for their respective teams....
