Hong Kong - A chronic gambler from southern China saved his marriage by chopping off his finger with a kitchen knife, a news report said on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old's wife decided to divorce him after he returned home after a weekend's gambling having lost all his money, the Hong Kong edition of the China Daily reported.

His wife refused to believe his promises to stop gambling until he took out a kitchen knife and sliced off his right index finger in front of her.

The woman, from Zhanjiang, western Guangdong province, was "deeply moved" by his determination and decided to stand by him, the newspaper said.

Thanks for the heads up Fish. Good strategy should I ever need it. I doubt I will though. You've met Mrs. Jones.

Two years ago I tapped out everything [back when I was a crazy gambler and not a calculating 1 to 2 percenter] thanks to Joe Pa vs. Virginia.

All I had to do was lay in bed feigning deep depression, and Mrs. Jones made me head out to the nearest Winn Dixie's Western Union with another dime and it hasn't happened since. Things sure have changed since then.
