Good safe choice in the hopes we get a non-political halftime show, and can just enjoy it for a change.
"Adam Levine is pretty much a household name since "The Voice" came out."
There's the problem...he becomes a celebrity from TV and now his band warrants a super bowl appearance.
Uh, he didn't become a celebrity from TV (he already was one). His band has multiple hits. He was People magazine's sexiest man alive. He had plenty of notoriety previous to The Voice. His band warrants a Superbowl appearance because they have a wide reaching appeal (I'm pretty sure they max out on every concert venue they appear in).
Actually Maroon 5 has been around for 24 years and has only been charted for 16 years, Coldplay has been charted for 19 years
Money wise, Coldplay has sold $100 million vs. Maroon 5's $75 Million
But, Maroon 5 has sold more units, 99.4 Mil vs. 84.6 mil
as far as your picks to play halftime, Yeah they could have gone with either one of them
Think Usher would have been a better show than Outkast.
I don't think the NFL wants any Hip Hop groups right now because they are not looking for anyone to send a " Message " at Halftime
I was just kind of guessing when it came to the most popular group over the last 30 years. I didn't mean to imply they have been around 30 years. Ever since the mid 90's the last time grunge bands were relevent there haven't been many bands that have stood the test of time. Others mentioned Coldplay, Maroon 5 and maybe Linkin Park are the top 3?
Those numbers comparing Coldplay to Maroon 5 are probably accurate. But also probably worldwide, Coldplay is a Euro band that sells a ton worldwide. The average Amercian probably couldn't name more the 5 Coldplay songs within 10 seconds. They have had hits overseas that barely got any US radio airtime. I'm actually a big fan of Coldplay and not trying to bash them at all.
But as far as the USA is concerned I'd bet Maroon 5 gets way more airtime, has more top 10 hits, have more $$ and unit sales, has taken in more in concert sales in a sweep across the board. NFL is a hugely American sport. Maybe if it were soccer Coldplay would make more sense.
