This is hypothetical I can't proove Perry used a spitball or Mcqwire used steroids, solely allegedly speaking. wil.

All the Bonds talk got me thinking about cheating in baseball which seems to have an unwrtitten rule that if you can get away with it than there is nothing wrong with cheating. Go back to say 1998 and compare McGwire to Gaylord Perry of the 70's and 80's loading up spitballs to get batters out which was definitely against the rules. McQwire at the time most likely knew what he was doing was wrong shooting steroids to hit homeruns but there were really no official rules about steroids then. Which of the two commited the most serious offense against the game of baseball?

Wil- Just breakin balls......

My thoughts on steroids is that 90% if not more playersat some point do some sort of steroids. My reasoning is simple. Why would you not? I mean you see these guys doing it and performing so well while they are on it. Who in their right mind would not do steroids in a contract year, when it might meaning getting a 5 yr 20 million dollar deal instead of a 2 yr 4 million dollar deal? I do not believe that players can just produce so well in the final year of their contract just by trying harder or focusing more. I think that there are some people that abuse them like Giambi and that is why they have problems. Canseco weither you like him or not, makes many good points in his book about how steroids are very beneficial as long as you do the right things while you are on them. You can not go out to clubs every night and drink and do X the way Giambi supposedly did. Living down here in FL, you get the chance to see these guys in the gym and I can tell you so many of them are on juice it is crazy. For example the kid catcher from minnesota, Joe Mauer, I saw him in the gym right after he was signed and then again about 8 months later and I can say without a doubt in my mind that he did steroids.

Ace you make some good points but there are medical implications involved and of coure now moral reasons (illegal) to avoid steroids. I know I probably sound naive but there have to be some players who value their health more than a larger contract especially if they have families.

Wil- I think like alot of drugs, steroids are harmful when they are abused, but can be beneficial if taken in the right capacity.

i'd say roids is worse than doctoring a baseball. i know they're both cheating but...somehow a spitball seems more crafty than cheating and roids seems like more cheating than crafty. does this make sense or, am i just rambling?

When McGwire juiced up - forget about baseball rules - they are "illegal" to purchase or consume. The Andro he was using was legal at the time-over the counter. Andro helped Im sure- but the injectables are where it's at.

Bonds mentioned the cream and the clear-I guess he forgot about the "oil" he injected.
