see the other threads about this. It is a shrewd promotion and they are not giving away as much as you might think.

Man U have the largest fan base in the world on any sport. Therefore more money is lost on them in an average season than on any other team, since the UK books will shade the lines on Man U by up to 5% from true value - but due to their high juice this does not necessarily mean betting the opponents each week is a good idea!

So whilst Mansion will get lots of Spurs backers on the freebie they will also get lots of action on the other side.

For non UK footie followers, I recommend watching out for non-League matches such as the Champions League and FA Cup in case Mansion promote these. In these matches Man U will not be involved as they are out of the Cups.

I'm not at all clear why you think Mansion will get a bunch of action on Manchester United.

But even if you're correct, and they do get a bunch of action on Manchester United, why do you think that this increased ManU action will come as a result of this promotion ? I wouldn't think this promo would have any effect, one way or the other, on how many people bet on ManU at Mansion (unless you're counting the people who are hedging the freebie bet by betting ManU on the Mansion Exchange).

Let me rephrase that ...

I understand that you think Mansion will be receiving a lot of action on ManU ... but why do you think this ManU action has anything to do with the promo that Mansion is running ? In my mind, the promo would have zero effect on the amount of ManU action that they receive (except for the people who are hedging their freebie bet by betting on ManU).

Just to make sure everyone understands what you are talking about, because Halifax as usual has no clue, the books have been losing on MU looking at least 5 years back.

Betting on the opponents have cleaned up many that think that they are smart!

Look - heres the deal.

Mansion thought they had a huge historic deal with MANU. According to Mansion Manu screwed them over.

So what does Mansion do? They have some fun with it. They make it subtle so that some beat reporter for the London paper will figure out that every week the team of the week plays Manu. Then that story will run. And then it will be in every Reuters paper in the world. Its cheap exposure.

Not rocket science.

ACW, I understand that English isn't your first language, so I'll give you a pass on the reading comprehension problem. Next time, however, I suggest that you stick to grabbing referral bonuses at Nine.com, and let Peskypup answer the question that was directed to him.

--------

I will restate my question for Peskypup ....

Why do you think that Mansion's promotion will have any effect, positive or negative, on the volume of bets on ManU that Mansion takes in ?

I fully realize, as was already discussed earlier in this thread and others, that there are certain media / public relations / word of mouth promotional areas that may well make this promotion a beneficial one for Mansion, but I don't see how this promotion will influence how much volume Mansion takes in on ManU bets (or maybe I misread what you wrote, and you weren't saying this at all).

The promo will have nil impact on the volume of bets on Manu. However, if I was a bookie I would offer such a promo on the opponents of the team I thought was most likely to get most action from my existing customer base.

Man U has got to be one of the top 3 in the UK for this - though the past season I would agree Chelsea have had a lot of action. But for example the annual report of William Hill plc says that a couple of weeks when Chelsea lost were very good for them.

Likewise the Man U 0 Sunderland 0 result will have made the UK books a ton of profit.

Damn. ManU wins 2-1. Should've put a little bit on ManU on the exchange.

Oh well...at least we get our money back.

I'm not sure why so many people are shocked by this promotion. Each of these $87 Bonus Bets Mansion gives away has an equity of perhaps $35-$40, and they started the promotion with 6 matches left in the season, so on average this promotion would cost them about $225 or so for each person who took advantage of all 6 bets. In practice, it's cost them $75 so far as one bet won and two lost.

Mansion is pretty stingy with sportsbook bonuses--as I recall I got something like a $90 Bonus Bet with my intial deposit so that was it--so I expect they're actually giving away less with this promotion than most books who offer bonuses.

mmm

you should have been on Everton +1.25 goals, half of this bet won. I recommend the Asian handicaps on this promo offer, there is less juice on them.

Tottenham 1 Man Utd 2

So if you were on Tottenham +1.25, half of the bet (+1) pushes and the other half (+1.5) wins

The actual line was +0.25.
