I see so much talk about the Manny situation. People assume it's steroids. Do you guys have any idea how many substances are banned by the MLB now?

Source: Ramirez’s substance a sexual enhancer

LOS ANGELES – A source close to Manny Ramirez(notes) said Thursday that the illegal substance for which the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger tested positive was not “an agent customarily used for performance enhancing.”
At least not on the baseball diamond. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive. It is not Viagra, but a substance that treats the cause rather providing a temporary boost in sexual performance, the source said.
Ramirez tested positive for the substance during spring training, then was administered a second test more recently, and it also was positive. Major League Baseball notified Ramirez of the second positive test after Wednesday night’s Dodgers victory over the Washington Nationals. Ramirez admitted to having taken the substance and declined to appeal. His 50-game suspension begins today.
“The substance is not a steroid and it is not human-growth hormone,” the source said.
Ramirez, the source said, acquired the substance through a prescription from a doctor in Miami for his medical condition. The source intimated that Ramirez might bring legal action against the physician.
Ramirez released the following statement Thursday morning: “Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I’ve taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.
The Dodgers, who have won a Major League record 13 consecutive home games to start the season, will be without Ramirez until July 3. Outfielder Xavier Paul was promoted from triple-A to take Ramirez’s place on the roster. The suspension will cost Ramirez close to $8 million in lost wages.

The substance is rumored to be gonadotropin, and it's often used for reasons far different than erectile disfunction. Ramirez's people may try and spin it as "he had a problem with ED," but I think another reason is much more likely.

Here's a description from one of the many substance-friendly powerlifting sites:

HCG, or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a steroid which is legally banned in the United States. Originally extracted from the urine of pregnant women, HCG was initially used to help infertile women become more fertile. Men soon discovered that it had much use in spurning male testosterone production, and before long it was being used by bodybuilders, powerlifters, and strength athletes. HCG is simlair in structure to Clomid. Likewise, it requires a prescription for purchase in the US.

HCG works by mimicking the leutenizing hormone (LH) in the bloodstream. The testes sense the LH in the blood, and they take it as a signal to begin production of sperm cells. Even if your pituitary gland is still sensing an elevated level or testosterone in the body (and therefore not ordering the testes to produce once again), the LH still kickstarts sperm production. This is very useful for long-term users of steroids who are seeking to start or grow a family, and are quickly discovering they are “firing blanks”.

HCG can be used in conjunction with any steroid stack, whether is be off-season or pre-contest. Bodybuilders also like to use it in that brief “off-cycle” session where they give their body (and receptors) a break from the steroid use. HCG is very useful for bodybuilders who have been using steroids for 8 months to several years without a break, who fear their natural testosterone production has been halted forever. HCG can often help!

When selecting a PCT (post-cycle therapy) drug, you should attempt to locate Clomid or Nolvadex first. HCG use prevents the body from producing its own LH, which creates an additional set of problems. It seems every drug that offers a solution offers another set of problems! Speaking of problems, HCG has been known to aggravate small cases of gyno in users with minor gynecomastia. If it’s a problem for you, avoid HCG.

HCG is most effective when run during the last 2 to 4 weeks of your steroid cycle. It allows the body to re-start its testosterone production without any long-term negative effects. It’s a very safe drug when used minimally for limited purposes. You should be running 10,000 ius of HCG if using it alone. When used in conjunction with an anti-estrogen such as Nolvadex, only half of that amount is required.

HCG is active in the body for just a few days following injection. After 2 days, the blood levels will peak, and will begin to decline. HCG is detectable in the bloodstream for a little less than a week. HCG can be useful for you in several circumstances. If you are limited in terms of your PCT options and other compounds are not accessible, you should definitely consider the use of HCG. If you are considering growing your family following a few years of irresponsible steroid use, then HCG is probably a good option there are well. HCG is the ‘great forgiver’ in that it allows the person to undo many months or several years’ worth of testicular crippling.

Don't know anything about ADHD meds but speed/coke are the anti-sex drug. One thing speed freaks cannot do is F.
