Man Who Was Down to His Last 75 Cents Wins $1.3 Million Jackpot

STATELINE, Nev. May 18, 2004 — A Fremont, Calif., man said he was down to his last quarters when Lady Luck intervened at a Lake Tahoe casino.
Kurt Yoshio Kitajima walked away Sunday with a $1.3 million jackpot from the Lakeside Inn and Casino at Stateline.

"I was playing my last 75 cents and was hoping I would hit something to keep me playing," Kitajima said in a written statement.

He said he was unaware at first that he had hit the MegaJackpot on the Wheel of Fortune game he was playing.

A financial consultant, Kitajima said he plans to put his winnings into a savings account.

Wheel of Fortune is a progressive slot machine manufactured by Reno-based International Game Technology.
