<!-- end page tools --> <!-- begin story body --> <!-- template inline --><!-- pos: 167 -->BAGHDAD -- Police say an Iraqi soccer player has been shot dead just as he was about to kick what could have been the tying goal in a weekend game south of Baghdad.
Police Maj. Muthanna Khalid says a striker from the Buhairat amateur team was facing only the goalie during a Sunday match in Hillah when a supporter of the rival Sinjar club shot him in the head in the final minute of play.
Sinjar was leading 1-0 when the shooting occurred. Khalid said a spectator was arrested.
More Iraqis are turning out for sports events now that security is improving. Major matches in Baghdad are heavily guarded but security in amateur games in smaller cities is often lax.

Yup, security is improving......maybe soon they'll be like the rest of the world where the athletes just break legs and ankles and pull quads......I guess Joe Theisman was just lucky the Redskins weren't playing in Iraq.

We're talking about Iraq here people.......I'm really surprised that the players aren't running around the soccer field with a machete in each hand. Fuck, it'll be at least another 5000 years before anybody sees a female face over there.

When a player gets shot and killed at a soccer game....needless to say, that's the first clue that you're dealing with a truly incurable country. Really.

I wonder what the Iraqis have to say about Detroit.

Ok, I missed it.....did a Detroit team lose a player because someone shot him dead on the field?

In Iraq you can't attend a funeral without wondering which person in the crowd is going to explode.

Actually many US cities have higher murder rates, including Detroit.

I understand where you are coming from, but did you pause for a moment of silence for the guy.

I hate this holier than though attitude people have that everyone has to treat everything in the same manner that you deem to be correct.

First of all, I don't think anyone on here knew the guy, so it is not felt personally.

When you laugh at something, I am sure it is at the expense of someone, as most jokes have a certain amount of truth behind them.

This is a message board. Lighten up Francis.

This is absurd thinking. So just because you did'nt know the individual personally its ok for comedy central to commence. In my book its not cool to crack jokes involving a man being shot to death. I guess I'm just weird like that.

And what does "this is a message board" mean? What on message boards its anything goes?

I'll remember to crack a few jokes when you die, hows that then Francis?

Fine by me.

This is a message board, meaning people come on hear to makes comments, gather information, crack jokes.

So since you are offended, we should all cease immediately? While you are at, why don't you cry about the people that are homeless

and starving around the world. So, don't leave anything on your plate EVER AGAIN!

While you are at, why don't you contact the State Department and find out how to get in touch with the guy's family and pay for his burial, you are obviously very concerned.

People die everyday, so we should allow drown ourselves in tears?

Thanks for clearing up what a message board is.

Where did I state all should cease these comments immediately? I simply insinuated they were classless, which they are. And what do homeless people have to do with a bunch of idiots making wisecracks about somebody's death? Please explain the connection

I just want to make sure I understand where you are coming from. So you are arguing the righteousness to crack jokes about anything, including a man being murdered, on message boards? Is this right?

Unreal.

i semi agree with big ten. people say stuff on here because they can't get away with it in the real world.

i think people should say whatever they would say in real life, and not hide behind some crazy avatar and username they create to be there alter ego or someone else.

if your information was posted wherever you went on the internet with your name, location, phone for all to see, i guarantee you see the cut down on a lot of these useless comments.

im not a non privacy guy, but when you have people going too far and being an idiot, they should be reminded that they are being watched and that they will have to pay for there actions.

i say its more of a commentary on how pathetic the typical american has become. we run online and conceal our identities and say some of the dumbest, vile, pathetic things and then hide in real life.

sad, but oh well thats life.
