Magic Johnson offers LeBron James $1,000,000 to participate in the dunk contest at the All-Star game.

LeBron James never has taken part in the NBA's dunk contest. Now he might have a million reasons to try it.
Magic Johnson on Friday said he wants to see James take part in the annual contest so badly that he offered to give $1 million to James -- or anyone who can beat him.
"Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I'm going to put up a million dollars," Johnson said on ESPN's Kia NBA Countdown. "A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner."
The NBA currently pays $100,000 to the winner and $50,000 to the runner-up.
James always has declined to take part in the annual contest, but he has been throwing down trophy-worthy dunks lately in pregame warm-ups.
Jalen Rose called for more elite players to take part, as well.
"LeBron James, Blake Griffin both have to be in it," Rose said on the show, and Johnson agreed. "All-Star-caliber players helping build the league during All-Star weekend."
Griffin won the contest in 2011.

eh... I am pretty sure it would be a sponsored event.. Magic puts up One Million to be gin with, sure.. but once nike/gatorade/etc gets ahold of the mayhem this would cause.. 1 million would be what they pay the announcers :):)

:money:

Seems as if Magic considers Lebron a shoe in to win the dunk contest if he participated.

Someone should now counter by offering Dwight Howard the same, who is one of the few players who could beat LJ in such a contest...

I'd be nice to see some of the stars do it, instead of a bunch of 12-13 guys on the roster. Pretty stupid watching all of the good players dressed like they are going to a rap concert while some guy I never heard of misses 4 dunks in 90 seconds.

It is unwatchable for me once some unknown starts screwing around, missing most dunks and taking 45 seconds between attempts

LeBron doesn't seem like the type to be "forced" into doing something he doesn't want to do by this public offering of money, but it will be interesting to see if LeBron responds or this gains any traction

They need to put a stop to all the stupid props and gimmick dunk shite. Forget jumping over objects/people......just jump your highest/furthest and gimme your sickest dunks.

This would be the absolute best contest ever if it went down with Lebron/Griffin/Howard.. and then had showboats like Kobe/Wade/heck even a few Harlem Globtrotters (lol)/etc..

One of few players?

There's probably a 1000 people who could beat Lebron in a dunk contest.
His dunks are lame. He's scared for a reason.

Actually the thread title is misleading, he didn't offer $1 Million for Lebron to do the dunk contest, he offered $1 Million to the winner to entice Lebron to participate.
