Just released from Brian Cashman:

"We have not had any discussion with Greg Maddux and we are not going to have any discussions with Greg Maddux," Cashman said on Sporting News Radio's Tim Brando Show. "I don't have a spot for him. He is a tremendous pitcher, he is going to do well for some organization, and I am not going to insult him with a non-roster invite offer. ...

"I guarantee you are going to see him wearing a different uniform. It won't be a Yankee uniform. It is not because we don't respect him as a pitcher, it is just that there is no spot for him here and the cake (money) that he is looking for, I'm sure, couldn't fit anymore with what we have done."

Steinbrenner also reiterated that the Yankees have no interest in Maddux.

Further, WOR in NY is reporting that Maddux has issued said: "He has never been in contact with the Yankees, has not been offered a contract by them, is not interested in playing for them, and doesn't think he will ever be interested in playing for them."

Looks like last night's rumor was totally unfounded. Amazing how people pick up on rumors out of nowehere and believe they're true. It's almost certainly going to be either the Cubs or Dodgers.

Fish, Maddux rejected overtures from both Boston and Baltimore weeks ago. He just doesn't want to be in the AL and doesn't want to be on the east coast.

It will almost certainly be the Cubs or Dodgers though I suppose the Giants or Padres could theoretically jump in with a serious offer, though I highly doubt it.

One radio station is reporting that Maddux has said he would fire Boras if he doesn't get him signed with the Cubs by tomorrow. lol Just the way I figured it, Boras gets to look like the bad guy (which he is frankly) and Maddux gets to look like a good guy to Cubs fans. Boras is just a royal pain in the azz who will do whatever he can to drag things out, get more money and generally be a prick.

I don't think anything could get him there but if anything could it would be a 3-year deal for an insane dollar amount. Boston would be idiotic to do it. Maddux is not well suited to move to the AL now. Boston is bettor off to just wait for midseason and then trade for a lot of talent that may be available. The only deal that makes sense for Maddux and the team is a 2-year dollar for 6-8 mil per with an NL team. Anything less is insulting, anything more is overpaying and moving to the AL isn't good for Maddux's success.

D2, I know for a fact that The General is a very decent guy, and is far from being a prick.

Seriously, it would surprise me if Maddux ends up anywhere other than Wrigley.

Maddux won't sign with an American league team. He would get lit up like a Christmas tree if he had to face those stacked lineups in the AL and he won't get all those bullshit strike calls like he has his entire overrated career in the NL. I would love to see him sign with the Yankees. There would be lots of free money by playing the over in any game he starts. They couldn't make a total high enough with the Yankee bats and Maddux's gopher balls.

His thief of an agent is finding that teams know Maddux is done and don't want to pay anywhere near the asking price. He'll sign with an NL team and get his 300th win and this will be his last year.

WABC in NY and George Offman from the Score-670 in Chicago are standing by their story that the Yankees have "serious" interest in Maddux, and are mad because they got ratted out. Boras could be trying to get the Yankees to bid up to make the Cubs raise their offer. Maddux has stated that he doesn't want to play on the east coast or in the AL. Meanwhile Boras wants 2-year, $24 million.

Fair, these reporters tend to think they are smarter tahn they really are, of course they stand by their "story" and their oh-so reliable sources. I'm pretty good at detecting a non-denial denial but what came from Cashman and Steinbrenner today were DENIAL denials. Given their statements there is ZERO chance that Maddux will be a Yankee. I have no doubt that Boras might be trying to get the bid up and quite possibly he planted the story...and those reporters were duped.
