Les Miles' firing will put the Tigers' fourth-ranked class in jeopardy during one of the most critical stretches of the recruting calendar. Despite questions about Miles' future after last season, LSU was still able to land 20 commitments in the 2017 class, including 12 players ranked in the ESPN 300 and second-ranked defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin. "Les is LSU," longtime Tiger receiver commit Mannie Netherly of Crosby (Texas) High tweeted after the news broke.

Les Miles won a lot of football games as LSU's coach and guided the Tigers to the 2007 BCS national championship. But the "Mad Hatter" was also famously stubborn. After surviving an attempted coup by boosters to fire him last season, Miles did very little to change LSU's offense. He kept Cam Cameron, the same offensive coordinator, and started Brandon Harris, the same quarterback. After the Tigers lost twice and looked woefully inept on offense in September, LSU officials finally pulled the plug on Miles on Sunday. Only one month into the 2016 season, the Tigers are now at the front of the line in the race to hire Houston coach Tom Herman.

Nah , Oregon the guy taking over is the real recruiting guru at LSU. This should have happened 10 years ago

Les Miles was the time management expert; every year there is a major issue with terrible clock management; look for Harbaugh to hire Les as a "consultant"; do not forget Les is from TTUN...

I don't agree. LSU was recruiting very well for years before Orgeron showed up.

Ed is considered one of the top recruiters in the country. Anywhere he goes, those teams get cream of the crop players.

Art Briles should be on the sideline ASAP. He would solve all their offensive ineptitude within a few years.

He might solve one problem but he would introduce new ones that are much more detrimental to the LSU program.

Dick Vitale strongly disagrees with this firing so that pretty much tells you it is for the better. Vitale is a proven moron and has never been right about a damn thing.

Did he mention Dook and Coach K when making that statement?

FWIW, looking at this from a distance, it appears the boosters wanted him out and the bad start was the last straw. Being preseason number 5 and starting 2-2 not good when you're on thin ice. I think only loud mouth money can make this happen at this time.
