should we just hand them the cup now and forget playing this season....haha... TSN is saying 1 year deal, worth about 7.5 million. Don't think it's quite official yet.

It's official I think. One year 7.4 million. Gives Detroit a great chance at another cup, and lets Hossa go back into free agency again next year where he'll get more money.

I've heard he could have had over 8 mil longterm from the Oilers. I think what he did was smart though. If he goes longterm to the Oilers for the biggest cash he might never win a cup, so he'll go to the best team for 1 year for less money, have a good chance at winning the cup and then get his huge contract next year with the Oilers or whoever will pay the most.

right and what if he breaks his leg or something or tears his ACL during the year and he cant play no more? or what if gets a puck to the eye?

he coulda had 4 more years at 8 mil which is 32 mil he would potentially lose. hes willing to give that all up to sign with the wings? who quite frankly dont have that HUGE of a chance more then the pens to win.

I get why Pens fans would be upset, but honestly I don't even think they were second on his list. From what I've heard Oilers offered the most money, and were the runner-up to the Wings. If he wasn't a Wing he'd be an Oiler, not a Pen.

I mean i hate the pens im just saying if this guy wants to win so bad win win win, and secure his financial future the play was head back to pittsbugh who has malkin, crosby and so forth.

i mean does he really think that detroit is gonna repeat? i dont

Repeating is extremely hard, but if you wanted to win a cup and were looking for the team with the best chance to do so the obvious team is the Wings. They have by far the best team. That doesn't mean they'll win again easily, but they do have the most talent and will be favored to win. I could understand signing with the Pens over the Oilers also I guess because you'd still be making good money and you'd think they'd eventually win in the next 5 years with Malkin locked up now, but I think it's obvious he wants to just win next year and then go to whoever will give him the most money next offseason.

It'll be interesting to see what he decides to do if Detroit doesn't win this year. Does he go for another 1 year deal with a cup contender or just take the big money and hope whoever pays him makes a playoff run?

What a punk if he signs with Detroit after what he said. What a tragedy it would be if he sustained a career ending injury after gobbling up a 1-year deal to play with the team he couldnt beat when he couldve had $50 mill.

He only considered 3 teams.. Detroit, Pittsburgh and Boston. In that order. Edmonton could have offered 500 billion dollars, nobody wants to play up there. His agent wants to get paid, he wanted him to go to Edmonton.

I love the whole 'oh the Wings got this thang all wrapped up now'.. I remember when the Avs loaded up on Selanne and Kariya.

As a Pens fan, I am AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA okay with it. Especially after signing up Malkin, Orpik and Fluery up to 6 year deals at a generous prices.

We'll see what happens. I trust in Shero.

Detroit is a class A team and treat players very well. A lot of players would love to play for a winning organization,

I don't get why Pens fans are so upset. You sign Hossa and you lose almost any chance at winning the cup. Shero would have been a complete idiot to sign Hossa, although I'm sure he tried his best. He has "accidentally" built a team that is ready to compete for the cup next year. Signing Fedotenko and Satan to one year deals (at a combined $5.75 mil) is exactly what they need to compete.

At the same time, Hossa makes sense for the Wings, cause they will just let him walk at the end of the year when they need to re-sign Zetterberg.

It boggles the mind to think Pens fans think their chances at a cup would be better by signing Hossa to a 7 year, $50 mil deal. That would mean a cap hit of almost $50 mil for 11 players going into the 2009/10 season.

Eric, from what I am hearing Hossa was very close to going to Edmonton. He actually stated he'd like to play in a Canadian city, has a couple friends on the Oilers who he'd spoken with seriously about playing there and was very impressed with their team and all the young great talent they have. Sportsnet said last night the Oilers offer for Hossa was 80 million for 9 years. I think its obvious Detroit has the best shot at the cup next year though and thats why we saw him sign a 1 year deal there to take a shot at it. I guess we will see this all over again next summer and I'm sure you'll see him go to the highest bidder at that point. As a Canuck fan, I'm quite happy Hossa ended up in Detroit and not with the Oilers.

Sundin is highly above average, but he isn't good enough to be the highest payed player in the league at $10 mil per year. It would be a huge addition to the Canucks though and they would surely make the playoffs with him.

I'm very anti-Maple Leafs but I like Sundin a lot and think he would be a great addition for 2 seasons. wouldn't mind if the Canucks signed Sundin and someone talented to play with him as well so they could become a number 1 line, and move the Sedins down to 2nd line. But if they just signed Sundin alone and not talent with him then it is a pointless move. I think when we saw Naslund leave Vancouver for New York today it means Sundin isn't coming here.

Sundin is a nice player no doubt, but at 10 mil a year for two seasons it just dont make sense for an organization that needs to rebuild and plan for the future. this team has zero, none, zilch, of a chance to win the cup in the next two years, so other then trying to sell more tickets, what does sundin bring to your table?

your cash strapped with him for two seasons which he will make more then the ovechkins, crosbys, and malkins of the world.

this is a terrible move by the canucks in my opinion.
