Had a great time up at Saratoga yesterday. I'll run it down later.

Was glad to see you guys doing your thing here yesterday on Whitney Day.

Good luck today.

Saw Joe. He gave an Hawaiian Saratoga shirt from Giveaway Day a couple of weeks ago. Very cool. Thank you, Joe. Sorry I didn't have the first time turf horses ready for you. No time.

After you left I sat down, went through the Form and circled all eligible horses. On the back of the Form I wrote down, the Track, the race, and the times of expected post times. There were nine eligible races in the whole Telly. As the day went on I played them, mostly $20.00 win tickets. Here's where the story gets good and bad all at once.

When the Whitney came I knew that speed on the dirt was not holding up. I knew that Sierra Leone had been running behind Fierceness and White Abarrio. But today was his day. Those horses like to run near the front. And Sierra Leone was the only closer. So I made my biggest exacta bets of the day. $20.00 straight exactas #5 (Sierra Leone) over #s 3 Highland Falls; #7 White Abarrio; and #9 Fireceness. Highland Falls, who had one strong OC 100,000 race back since last fall and had won a Grade I race at Saratoga with a 104 Beyer was 17-1 when I bet. I figured that 6/27 race at BAQ was a prep for this race.

Sure enough the #3 takes the lead early in the stretch and Sierra Leone comes flying around horses from dead last to beat him down the stretch to the wire.

Sierra Leone went off at 9/5, the second favorite to Fierceness. Highland Falls wound up dropping to 13-1. So I was elated. Went from loser to significant winner. Just how much? Well because of all the hoopla surrounding the Whitney it took a long time to post the exacta price. Me and my buddies were hamming it up.

Here's the bad news. In my joy of a big score I lost track of time and didn't realize that the last turf angle horse of the day was going at Woodbine. I didn't get it in. Too late. Was going to bet a $20.00 win ticket and wheel him up and down. I was using their money now. It was a fourteen horse field and knew this was my chance for a big score. Using wn money, no less.

Well I didn't get it in. And the damned #1 came through the pack midstretch and got up over the #9 for thw win. Odds of the turf angle #1 - 46-1; odds of the second placed #9 - 11-1. I just blew $2,000.00 because I lost track of time celebrating the Whitney score!!

The stories we have about horse racing. They just grow over the years. Damn!
