You can't just pigeonhole Costa Rica if you want to bitch and moan about crime. It happens in all major cities around the World, including alleged First World countries. The difference I have found is that in CR a majority of the crime is usually out of necessity i.e people stealing because they need the money. In other countries people will mug you for shits and giggles and let you keep your valuables. They get their kicks from the beatdown and not from the booty that they could score.
