US University Bans ‘Offensive’ Words Such As ‘Grandfather’, ‘Man’, and ‘Red’
The University of Washington released an “inclusive language guide” last week that lists a number of so-called “problematic words” that they deem “racist,” “sexist,” “ageist,” or “homophobic.” According to the guide, words such as “grandfather,” “housekeeping,” “minority,” “ninja,” and “lame” are considered deeply offensive and must not be uttered by anybody at the University.
nope, posted the link right to the UW website. and they further encourage students and faculty to report vendors that are using such language and even provide sample verbiage to confront the, ahemm, offenders
my favorite is they've banned "cakewalk" and "takes the cake" in addition to "no can do" citing racist origins.
They've also banned the terms "crazy" and "insane" and "normal" and healthy" most likely because they're all crazy and insane, unhealthy, and abnormal
