Screw the players...just like the other unions in america, they think they own the wolrd. There would be no nfl if not for the risk the owners take personally, they keep wanting more and more money, and who gets screwed the fan. Higher salaries = higher ticket prices, concessions, parking, etc.... pretty soon they will have to go to ppv for more money. I hope they are locked out forever and the league reforms itself screwing all those over paid bitches and their lawyers. I am so tired of these unions in america and there i am entitled attitude. Fuck the nfl, just split the college games to played on saturday and sundays, see how fast they are forgot about.

Roger Goodell and NFL General Counsel Jeff Pash slashes own salaries to $1 per year during lock out.

NEW YORK -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and league general counsel Jeff Pash are slashing their salaries to $1 each during the lockout.

Goodell and Pash promised in January they would take salary cuts if there was a work stoppage. Goodell earns about $10 million a year, including bonuses, and Pash nearly $5 million.

Goodell also has asked the league's compensation committee to delay any bonus payments to him until there is a deal with the players' union.

Also taking cuts will be all league personnel at the New York headquarters, NFL Films in Mount Laurel, N.J., and at NFL Network and NFL.com in Culver City, Calif.
For now, salaries for those league employees will be reduced by 12 percent, an amount equal to two weeks' pay.
If the work stoppage continues into August, salary reductions for management-level employees will range from 25 percent for executive vice presidents to 20 percent for senior VPS and 15 percent for VPs. Directors will take a 10 percent cut and managers will be reduced by 5 percent.
In 2009, Goodell took a 20 percent pay cut and the league staff was trimmed by 15 percent.
Several teams have instituted furloughs and pay cuts because of the lockout, which began Saturday morning after the players' union decertified and the owners locked them out.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a plan to reduce salaries by less than 10 percent during a prolonged labor stoppage while letting all personnel keep their jobs. Those making the most money, including general manager Scott Pioli and coach Todd Haley, are taking the biggest hit, but no employees will be laid off or furloughed. If there is a full 2011 season, employees would be reimbursed for money lost.

The New York Jets have said business-side employees were asked to take one week's unpaid furlough every month during a work stoppage. They also will make reimbursements should the entire 2011 season be played.

"While we have every reason to believe that the season will go on as planned, it makes sense to adjust our policies to reflect that uncertainty around exactly when an agreement will be reached," Jets executive vice present of business operations Matt Higgins said.

I can't believe anyone here is sitting with owners. The money is either going to owners or players. There is no way they are going to take less money in by reducing ticket prices, merchandising, giving back money to tv networks, etc. I would love it if owners/players took less and you could take family to a game for $100 instead of the $500 you probably pay. But the reality is that people are now WILLING to pay $500 and until that changes the NFL is not going to reduce prices.

It is clear this is about owners wanting better return on their investments. They feel they should get more money not because they are losing but rather they see the opportunity to make more money. I think this is sheer greed and risky. The way they see it they can afford to lose a complete season and have the players cave in to their demands. Where as player has short playing career and thus losing 1 season is huge amount of their lifetime earnings, they are in bad spot compared to owners who already are billionaires and can own franchises for decades.

I think this will backfire. NFL has had increasing revenue for years now, and I don't think this is something that will easily recover from. People are creatures of habit and with fewer expendable dollars, people might find something more entertaining for their buck than watching NFL games.

They need a rookie salary cap like the NBA and take care of veteran and retire players. I don't go to NFL games because of the shit stadium here in Minnesota. NFL teams are making money and now the players don't have money to blow on bling, women, and cars so I think this will be resolved by this summer and a full season will be played.

don't know why anyone wants to side with either the players or owners... they're both screwing the fans over - not that the nfl isn't a good product, it's just not as good as either the players or owners think it is.

The players do not want more money, they are happy with the same percentage. The owners want more money back.

Please tell me what risk the owners have? They have guaranteed money coming in, what exactly is the risk?

Go ask Jerry Jones that question.. He put up 700 million dollars of his own money to build his new stadium.. As much as I dislike Jerry the guy has been taking risks his whole life to get where he is today.. He wasnt out blowing his money on cars, women, jewelry and god knows what else like most of the players do.. If I were him and the players were asking me to show my financials I would laugh in their face and tell them to go buy their own team....

The Cowboys do not lose money.

The stadium is a different entity than the team, although I do give Jones credit for not holding a city hostage. He also has opted out of the licensing deal that the NFL has so he gets to keep all Cowboys licensed apparel, etc to himself screwing his fellow owners.

The reason the players have a right to see the finances is because the owners want to be exempt from the law.

If I ask my CEO to see our company's financials, he would laugh at me. Then I would have two choices, I could say ok or I could leave and work for another company in the exact same industry.

The NFL wants to prevent players from doing this. If they want to prevent a player from simply changing employeres (Cowboys to Browns) whenever they want, then they need antitrust exemptions and there is really no good reason for them to have them.

Dear Roger Goodell,
You do know that nobody would give a rat's ass about 'the game we all love' if we didn't bet on it, right?
Yours,

The NFL Is a private organization.. The Players are employees.. Its none of the players god damn business how much the owners make.. If you owned a business and the employees wanted to know how much you make what would you tell them?
If the players dont like it have them start their own league.............

True they don't have to open their books, what's also true is that the players don't have to take their word for it that they're losing money.

i could honestly care less if there is the nfl next year or not, as IMO its the most overrated product going. what would i do if i couldnt watch commercial after commercial, and every f'n play challenged to see if 'the ball was moving', then watching inept coach try to outwit the other inept coach.

as with the labor thing, i dont know how, if picking sides, one could side with the owners. lets see, they want the players to play more games, but take less of the money???? if your employer said go work 6 days instead of 5, but for less money, people would be outraged. and god forbid you question the all mighty owners, but they wont open the books? gimme a break.
