FWIW - I saw Jacques Lemaire play several times during his excellent career with Les Habitants. #25 if I recall correctly, big shot, but also a hard working 2 way forward and smart player who (like all the Canadiens) could skate like hell. Lemaire played on 7 or 8 Cup winners and like you say GM'd two more.

Great trivia if you like that kind of thing: Lemaire was clutch also in fact he is one of only five players to have scored two Stanley Cup winning goals. The others are Mike Bossey, Bobby Orr, Henri Richard and Toe Blake. Add Lemaire and you have the only five players in history of the sport to have netted two Cup winning goals.

Trust me, I know what what defense is in the NHL. My point was Fleury was getting shell shocked and something had to be done before he was ruined as a goaltender and now he has a decent defense in front of him thanks to the Penquins new coach and players.

I don't feel this way to much but many hockey fans blame the Devils clutch and grab style of hockey for it's inability to reach more fans.

Thats another discussion for another day. I am done for the night, been working since early this morning.

Later, wil..

The "clutching" and "grabbing" has been gone for 5 years yet hockey is still relatively unknown. How many more excuses do fans need?

PENGUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Detroit pulls it out, should be a good matchup. I expect Detroit to open the series at about -150 or so.

bettman set the final up in hope of it being a ratings draw. should be interesting to see if they can get at least a 3.0 i dont think they will but we'll see.

i think pitt wins in 6 against det. line should be about det-140 for the series.

was not a big fan of Gonchar before the playoffs but he has somewhat changed my mind.

I hated Gonchar. He normally played lackadaisical, and sloppy.....espeiclaly with the puck in his own end. He looked slow an tired every time I watched him play. However, he has risen his game to a level I have never seen him play at the last few years and has just played awesomely these entire playoffs.

Pitts vs Detroit will probably have one of the highest rating for a Cup Final in many years. This is a dream match-up for the NHL and Bettman.

I'm hoping the Pens will win it because I just hate the Red Wings. The series should go at least 6 games.

I just cashed a big series ticket with the Pens against Philly. Did not play the Detroit series. For the Finals I will not play because these two top teams are evenly matched and anyone can win.

I would like to see crosby win it as well. Detroit is like a video game though and it will be tough to beat them.

Maybe Pittsburgh will pull an Ottawa and lose in 4.

After all, they were already called the Stanley Cup winners before the playoffs began.

LOL wouldn't that be something!

hockey is so irrelevant in this country that game 3 of the stanley cup got a 1.1, while nba eastern finals game 3 on tnt got a 5.3. like i said, bettman needs a strong showing here or else send em off to canada.

why are they playing hockey anyways when its 80 degrees out now.

ratings will be much higher this year. Pens/Flyers game 2 pulled a 1.7 on versus, with almost 2.5 million viewers. I'd have to think a pens/wings cup on NBC will do a solid number

btw, that is in no way an endorsement of either bettman or this idiot Versus deal...just pointing out that NHL viewership is way up this year probably in large part to the teams involved.

Hockey is popular in spots in the US and like the other major sports if the hometeam comes up with a serious Cup contender the town the team is from will go crazy if they win it all, just like towns that win MLB, NBA or NFL championships do.

Which ever city wins the cup this year Pittsburg or Detroit will have riots in the streets and a big parade. The problem is there can only be one winner and once in a blue moon a Canadien team wins the cup (somehow)..

Last dozen or so Cup winners.

1993–94 New York Rangers
1994–95 New Jersey Devils
1995–96 Colorado Avalanche
1996–97 Detroit Red Wings
1997–98 Detroit Red Wings
1998–99 Dallas Stars
1999–2000 New Jersey Devils
2000–01 Colorado Avalanche
2001–02 Detroit Red Wings
2002–03 New Jersey Devils
2003–04 Tampa Bay Lightning
2004–05 Not awarded because of the cancellation of the 2004–05 season.
2005–06 Carolina Hurricanes
2006–07 Anaheim Ducks

The last Canadien team to win a Stanley Cup was Montreal in 1992/93.

Unfortunately for Boston Bruins fans they might as well be in Canada as they are suffering thru at 35 year drought when it comes to winning Stanley Cups..

While there was a slight improvement this year for the Bruins, they barely made the playoffs, another Stanley Cup is nowhere on the horizon for the Bruins who are in a hockey crazy town IF the team is competitive.
