One LIE that is commonly used by sports books to AVOID taking phone calls is "so and so is in a meeting!!!"

I don't know why this bothers me as much as it does. Perhaps it's because I cannot imagine BOOKIES to be in meetings more often than Senators, Congressmen and the Clergy combined!

The next time someone gets told that a bookie is in a meeting, let's begin posting it here in this thread.

Though it probably won't make a difference, it will at least alert gamblers to outfits who may be using this lame excuse to avoid dealing with their customers...

I just called one of my books and asked for the boss.

The answer I got was: "he is NOT in a meeting, but if you would like to wait for him to finish speaking to another customer he will be glad to talk to you."

Next question I had was, "how long will I wait?"

Answer, "well we have 1500 customers and they are all waiting to talk to the manager so maybe sometime next week"

Next question, "why don't you guys hire people to take calls and answer questions on behalf of the company"

Answer: "we have 15 customer service people, but lately all of our customers are so important that they can not talk to customer service they must deal directly with the boss."

Me: "oh I see, maybe your boss should hire better customer service reps"

Answer, "that would cost money and our boss says that he has more time than money right now"

Me: "is your company in trouble?"

Answer: "oh no we are solid"

How about when you email the mods and the owner here at the RX with a problem. I sent 20 emails over a 2 day period with a problem and only Angelle returned the email.

Irish did have an excuse because his hotmail account was down and I was sending it there. The only way to get through to these guys is jump in a thread started by Shrink.

Most of those guys down there, I don't care how much they make or what their ranking is at the sportsbook - are lazy men. Very lazy men.

We all know what "in a meeting means". Just a nice way of saying "I do not want to talk to you".

Simple fact is that they know who you might be and they know what you want, the problem is, the are far too lazy to be prepared for your phone call, or your problem. Just a bunch of lazy, lying bookies. It is not that they are too lazy to talk to you......they are just too lazy to be on top of things in general, so they know they will just have to tell you to "call back" anyway.

Am I wrong? I doubt it.
