Legendary special teams coach Bruce DeHaven died Tuesday evening at the age of 68 after a battle with prostate cancer, the Buffalo Bills announced.
DeHaven spent the first 13 seasons in the NFL with the Bills after beginning his coaching career during the 1970s in Kansas high schools.
He left the team after the "Music City Miracle" loss to the Tennessee Titans during the 1999 season, but returned to the Bills from 2010-12.
DeHaven most recently coached for the Carolina Panthers, but moved into an advisory role with the team this season due to his health.
Despite his prostate cancer diagnosis during the 2015 season, DeHaven continued to coach for the Panthers, missing only several road games to receive treatment.
DeHaven also coached for the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks over a three-decade-long career.
