With a handful of states, like New York, taking bigger steps toward the legalization and regulation of sports gambling, states like Mississippi are already reaping the benefits.

The Magnolia State has reportedly generated more than $106 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) during the month of December, from Mississippi's 12 Gulf Coast casinos – the best December the state has had in 26 years.

This is only the second time in history that these Mississippi casinos have generated more than $100 million in GGR, seeing a 7.5 percent increase in revenue from December 2017. Overall, 2018 saw a 4 percent increase in revenue from 2017 and was recorded as the best year Mississippi casinos have had since 2008.

The proximity of Mississippi's Gulf Coast casinos to the home of the New Orleans Saints, who are in the midst of their best season in recent franchise history, has reportedly played a significant role.

The Saints are currently 3.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, when they take on the Los Angeles Rams in this Sunday's NFC Championship game.

Reading that article makes me wonder just what in the world other states must be thinking for raising revenue..... I guess places like Virginia had rather tax prepared food to the tune of 11% (restaurants and the like)... Just amazing!
