LeBron James told ESPN.com on Friday that he does not let his sons, LeBron Jr. and Bryce Maximus, play football.

When asked whether the reason for his decision was the health dangers related to football, James replied, "Yes."

"Only basketball, baseball and soccer are allowed in my house," James said hours before leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a victory over the Denver Nuggets.
In addition to being one of the most highly touted high school basketball players of all time, James was an all-state wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. He stopped playing football after his junior season because of a broken wrist suffered in the offseason.

James, who in the past has called football his first love, remains a huge NFL and college football fan.

James said 7-year-old Bryce Maximus plays soccer, among other sports, while LeBron Jr., 10, is beginning to focus on basketball.

Having two girls I don't have this decision to make....But I would absolutely let my son play football.
You can get hurt playing every sport!

I've played pick up tackle football many many Sundays (no pads). Never got hurt other than maybe twisting an ankle.

I've had more stitches playing hoops than I can count.

I would encourage my son to bully those who don't play football.

Ex high school football athletes typically end up with great jobs. Besides Al Bundy. But alot of big medical companies hire those types of guys. Such as a good hs player who maybe was a walk on at college and never saw a minute of playing time.....Seen it a ton.

I would want my kid to participate in as many sports as possible. Just not the color guard. Never got those types but 1 of them did give me a bj in the bathroom at school back in the day.

Although basketball and not football. A high profile one is Luke Recker. Currently works at Stryker which means if you stay there and do well, you make great $$. Got the job ONLY through athletics.

The problem alot of parents are going to have is as their boys get older, they are going to want to play football more, especially if they have been told no for so many years. As teens, parents saying no is going to make them want to play more. I let me 8 yr old play, this was his first year of tackle and unfortunately he loved it so he will be playing for many years to come.

At younger ages.... football is not yet really football. most kids just grab player's jerseys and hang on. At some age.... when they can start to watch TV and hear the oooows and aaahs when players get rocked..... then is when they are taking a risk. And risking the health of others on the field.

I'd let mine play & will.

I think some people are just more injury prone than others even when it comes to concussions...

my parents let me play football and hockey and we'd let our kids play both, too. I had a concussion, many stitches, a cracked collarbone, and if it happens to my kids, it happens to my kids. I wouldn't deny them the fun of playing over the risk of getting hurt.

If you are a white guy and under 6-3, I'd raise your kids to avoid football or basketball. Pretty long odds.

the good thing about this is that james has the money to get great coaches for his son, let them try tennis or golf, a lot better than killing your body with football.......

I wouldn't let mine play. I played high school football. A family member played defense for the Dolphins and the browns for a few years. He quit playing. Guy is in his 30's and he gets confused all the time. Just spaces out. He won't let his kids play. He had way to many hits to the head. Totally destroyed his body and his brain. Plus living here in CR they don't have kids football.

In all my years growing up playing sports. I was ok, not great not bad. The worst/ scariest injury I ever had was in wrestling and it was during practice. I fell on my head and wasn't knocked out or anything and was completely conscience but was unable to move my neck for hours. I could walk and everything but I couldn't move my neck at all. Went away that night but kinda scary especially at the time i didnt know that a broken neck would mean you couldn't walk. Most awkward moment I may have had was working with a quadriplegic as a patient and tried to hand her my business card.

During football, only injury i ever had was a broken finger and that was taking the handoff. A sore tailbone once too.

MMA seems to be the new thing now. How is that less dangerous than football. I think this concussion thing is crazy. These guys get paid millions. Its a chance they have to live with or don't have too if they want to go work at Walmart or sell insurance. Seems like the chance of being like a Seau or Dave Duerson or Jim Mcmahon who was a QB is less that .01%. I like watching some of those 80's old school games when the strong safety was trying to knock you out. Defenses should just play and draft 3 or 4 corners now.
