Lawrence Phillips, the former Nebraska football star who was facing a murder charge, was found dead Wednesday morning in his California prison.
Authorities at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California, said they are investigating the death as a suspected suicide.
The prison staff was conducting security checks shortly after midnight local time Wednesday when they found Phillips, 40, unresponsive in his cell, according a release from the prison. Phillips was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later.

Sad . Great talent has football player. Piece crap human being.in out jail duis, assault, beating up women .ran over couple people on purpose. Dont remember if anyone died. Killed his cell mate last year. On less person to house in prison system. He had it all college star, in nfl. Money & women. Great job. Only one more stupid than him that comes to mind is aaron hernadez.

People don't seem to know or understand how damaged Lawrence really was.. I'm not making any excuses for his decisions but he was dealt a bad hand growing up and he never got the help he desperately needed. Sure he could play football but what does that even matter when you are mentally unstable which he clearly was.. It's a very sad story all around. Lawrence was truly the definition of wasted talent.

Back on Apr.11th 2015 he had apparently killed his cellmate brutally , who was a cousin of a pro football player, and was now being arraigned on those murder charges. Speculation being that he took his own life knowing his fate was sealed to be incarcerated forever.
