Laughlin, Nevada

Have any of you ever been to Laughlin? It resides about 90 miles south of Vegas and sits on the Colorado river on the Arizona/Nevada border.

Personally, I have spent many a day and night there. Was a pioneer slot mecca city for the beginning of the great beatable slot games. Many of the original banking games got thier start here. They also had the largest bank of Flush Attacks that I have ever seen in the USA to this day....23 machines linked together....and each seat filled 80% of the time.

The town has only around eleven or so casinos and is a throwback to the old West. Certainly, on a short trup to Vegas it is not worth your time to go there, but if you ever get a chance you should head on down to this canyon town. Like I mentioned, spent many a night there, so if anybody needs some advice or information, feel free to ask me. Good luck batgrinders.

Been there 2x's, but that was maybe 10 years ago.

I suspect players will find real value in the hotel rates, comps etc there.

I have been there 2 times..its right out there in the middle of nowhere. Nice with the river right there...did not have much luck at the casinos though

I highly recommend renting a jet ski, which you can do at a couple of the hotels, and head down the river a ways. We would usually ride them all the way down to the Avi, a local Indian casino.

Laughlin is great. Rent a Jet Ski, play some golf. If you bet Red Chips they treat you like a high roller, easy to have your stay comped there. I recomend the Losers Lounge in the Riverside for some good entertainment.

Ahhhhh, Losers Lounge, what a place. Lots of loose and fancy women there.....well, loose anyways.

I used to live there....it was pretty great, but brutally hot in the summer...moreso than even Las Vegas or Phoenix. Had to keep ovenmitts in my car just to drive home from work some days.

I used to like going to Tarzan's in the Golden Nugget as well as amateur strip night at Loser's. Course you'd have to suffer through a half dozen faded strippers to actually see one drunk tourist that was worth seeing. Fun times.

Going back to Vegas in September and I'm sure we'll get down there for a day or two. I always stay off the river though since it is normally chock full of drunk tourists and it seems like at least one person dies there per weekend from drowing or crashing their jetski. Also liked going to the movie theater at the Riverside and having a full bar right next to the concession stand.

Yeah and it would be the geniuses in this room that would arrange to go to Laughlin in August when it is 118 on days when it isn't raining and still 110 when the occasional torrential downpour hits. Every time there is a real heat wave in Vegas, which is when it gets to about 112 or above, they always without fail send a news crew to Laughlin and interview the roofers or the guys that lay pavement and ask them what they think. If they get real crazy they try to fry an egg on the ground. Laughlin is ok if you are just going to gamble for a few days, but it certainly isn't something you can't live without missing. I know a few airlines and charters fly regularly into the airport there in Bullhead City. Can't beat the convenience compared to Vegas, but other than that I can't say I would ever suggest the place unless you really like doing things on the river.

Yeah, I don't like Laughlin.

It's on the river, but there is no true river walk, and the river is not attractive like the Truckee in Reno. It's difficult just to walk from Casino to Casino due to no paths on the river, and traffic on the main road.

The river is always 50 degrees or so, such that even at 110 degree days you can catch hypthermia in it if you stay in long enough.

The mind numbering noise of all the seadoos ruins any "great outdoors" feeling of the river.

Been to Laughlin once, many moons ago (1987).

Hell, for that matter, the last time I was in Vegas, Bob Stupak's Vegas World was still standing. I think it's time I go back for another visit.

on my way back from vegas(i lived in Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona at the time)
i took a dip in the river with a kiwi chick i had met in LV.
like the above poster said, the water temp was bracing for such a warm day,
But the water starts its journey in high altitude so to be expected.
You guys should rent a car and drive to sedona or perhaps Havasupai Falls.
Although you have to hike 8 miles to get to the falls and its one
Indian Rez with no gambling on site.

I am going there in 2 weeks. Which hotel is better for gambling and night life, the Flamingo or Harrahs? All opinions appreciated.
