Last week, Fezzik gave us numbers 11-20 of his top Las Vegas sports books. This week, he gives us his top 10. Which book will be No.1? You might be surprised.

Read the rest of Fezzik's article by going to the RX home page at www.therx.com

Not a major gripe, but I feel a lot more people would read these articles if you included a link directly to them, instead of just to the RX homepage.

Funk, I think it has something to do with revenue. Shrink has to make the "nut."

Dear Funk,

If we linked directly to the article, our advertisers who pay good money to put their banner ads on the home page would not receive the page views necessary to justify the money they pay for those ads.

In addition, we want our posters to go to the home page to read other articles (under headlines) and to also take a look at the press releases from some offshore sports books.

We also have polls and, starting this fall, weekly quizes with t-shirt prizes for the correct answer.

WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME TO THE HOME PAGE!!!!!

I was a little surprised not to see the MGM Grand on the list of Top 20 sportsbooks.

Does anyone have thoughts on other sportsbooks not making the list that maybe should have?

El,

I think I read that the list is limited to one book per "family" of hotels.

So, Mirage being ranked would account for all MGM/Mirage properties.

Mirage is clearly far superior to MGM Grand.

I still have to rate SUNSET above GREEN VALLEY RANCH in my personal ratings.

I will have to talk FEZZIK into this when I meet him.

Hey Fish ,

A total novice / never lived there question.

Can a local open phone accounts at these sportsbooks ? I would hate to think one would have to run from shop to shop to get something down.

Could I walk in and hand them 10 grand and call in plays ?

Thanks

King,

Yes, a local with a valid Nevada ID can open not only a phone account, but Stations Casinos has accounts you can open and bet over your computer directly to their system.

King you can hand them 10 dimes but you can't wager more than 2200 in a 24 hour period. Those are GCB rules.

Interesting. Thank you both for your answers.

I would probably load up at several books and look to get the same number and spread it around.

Just like I do now in the islands.

I agree with the Coast properties. They will take a bet and pay with a smile.

Do you think it's better NOT to open phone accounts, because this allows the book to track you and possibly boot you? If you come in anonymously and spread your action around various books, you might be better off. Thoughts?

Nevada is obsolete compared to offshore world wide betting. You can bet how many places with your pc? One? Vegas books and their corporate bean counters want a fixed profit book, like slots. They want slots in the books. If you are not betting a 5 team parlay card, or taking the worst juicing possible, you are not good for business. I had managers actually tell me this before 86'ing me. If you even appear professional, and start betting limits, they will flat out ask you who you are. I also had managers that had known me since the handwritten days tell me to stay low, under the radar screen. They liked me, but when individual departments become accountable for profits, the book is usually the loss leader. When you balance them, they love you. But when they are out, and add to that, and it all cashes, they hate you. Forget the little stuff, they don't get enough action, nick and below. Biggest threat, we are turning you in to gaming. All the heavy hitters and real players left Nevada 6-8 years ago. Best wishes...OF
