From what little I read prices to stay on the stip are much higher than downtown. What does the strip have that isn't offered downtown?

Golden Nugget is comparable to the average strip hotel. It's also cheaper and easier to navigate. Downtown has better odds and cheaper gaming. Plaza has a good sportsbook. If you want to be close to the strip without the hassle, you might try Orleans or Gold Coast.

If you want shows and fancy restaurants, the strip can't be beat. More working women and tourist women on strip. Driving on the strip blows. Strip gaming = total rip off.

strip sucks, its crowded with morons and is a misrable experience. Steve Wynn destoryed the strip, Desert Inn was very nice, Wynn destroyed anything in Vegas that was nice. The sooner he is eliminted from Vegas the better.

Downtown is a crack infested rat hole.

Best buy in town by far is Caqnnery
East. Every night is $ 29.95 and the rooms are great and large. The place is only about 4 momths old so some of the units have hardly been slept in yet. It's off the strip but several of my friends have taken my advice and loved the place. Of course it works best if you have wheels as it is about 6 or 7 miles off the strip.

Dante, I want to move to Vegas area. But will need a week or so to look around to find a place. It's a tall order, but no need to pay more than I have to on an senior's apartment hunting trip.
Plenty of gaming later.

Golden Nugget downtown....Mainstreet & The Cal are fine too

I like Planet Hollywood on the strip,I have issues with
just about every one else on the strip

The Hilton is one of my favorite places

Don't be afraid of off-stripplaces like Silverton,Southpoint,
Gold Coast,Sunset Station & Tuscanny....they treat you
well there,have good restaurants & comps.Since its
not pool season,no need to stay at a high -end place.

It's two different experiences.

Downtown you can visit 8 casinos in 2 short blocks, under a covered canopy with security. Plus several more casinos 1-3 blocks away in different directions.

There are hourly light shows under the canopy at night, bands on 2 stages, and other entertainment, including one of the best side show type acts I've ever seen - 3 motorcyclists zip around at top speeds at the same time in a tiny metal ball.

On the strip, it's about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from one casino to the other in many cases, but many of the casinos (not including the Stratosphere) are much higher end than downtown. The Bellagio, especially, is worth walking thru just for the visual experience.

Downtown is mostly plain wrap, much of the strip is high end, fancy, and picturesque.
