See why Fezzik thinks Las Vegas is square city by going to the "new" Rx home page at www.therx.com

Don't forget, you can now get in-progress baseball scores located on the right nav bar of our home page.

Parlay card action alone probably has a hold over 10%. The cards are something offshore books do not have as a revenue source, and contribute a healthy piece of Vegas' 6.8% hold figure.

yeah, i see parlay cards being filled out all the time.

the orleans put a bunch of cards in the room when I stayed there. a smart move, I thought, I mean I would not play them but putting them right at the fingertips of the suckers lounging around in their rooms is brilliant.

A few years ago there used yo be one advantage to playing parlay cards in LV: they would put out cards in football season as early as Tuesday morning in order to grab the tourists before they left. This opened them to sharps bettors who bet them on Saturday against stale Monday odds. I noticed they put them out on lateThursday and even Friday some places now to avoid that. They shut down all my fun there!

I enjoy most of Fezzik's articles, but this one shows a bit of an "elitist attitude." I get the impression he enjoys comparing his success to the recreational players lack thereof.

This would be the equivalent of a professional golfer writing an article about how he beats every Pro Am participant by 10 strokes on average.

I do agree to a point, but lets face it there are still plenty of people willing to put up a dime that have a solid opinion on the games. They absorb a whole bunch of guys that are only putting $10 on their hopeless cards. But totally agree from the people I know that reside in Nevada and don't have any concept of value. That is what you would expect though from anyone that has lived in the state any length of time. Everyone repeats that the house always wins in the long run and to win anything you have to get lucky. With that frame of mind I don't really expect too many people to think about any kind of betting activity as a "value" proposition.

This applies to poker as well. Many players in town think they will do ok because they play tight and only come in with good cards. Well if you do that, but then never value bet and just check and call with your decent cards unless you make a monster hand, you totally gave up all value and can't win in the long run. It is a mindset that is rampant even for some fairly intelligent people I know.

Thanks Fezzik. I did not realize there were 161 sportsbooks in Nevada. How does tourist wagering play in this? I know many people who have went to Vegas but none of them were sharp at sports betting in any way. Also, I do not think that by living in Nevada, one should be sharper. No matter where you live, it takes a will to learn and take advantage of that knowledge.

Scotty S - thanks, I new the hold was high, but did not have any actual data to support a number, so I chose to remain on the side of caution.

I've seen and heard just about everthing in the 19 years that I have lived here but the one thing that has always amazed me is just how square people are that live here and bet on a regular basis. I'm not talking about someone betting a $5, 3 teamer in the NBA on the way home from work.

I'm referring to the people that are playing $200 or $300 a game and just walking up to the counter and playing whatever the price is on the board. When I used to spend quite a bit of time in the sports books when they were still in the gambling business, I used to watch guys all the time play a nickel on a game and lay 5 when I just came from three or four different books where it was 4 1/2. I used to see it all the time and in the long run, those half points can really make a big difference. I would watch people lay 10 cents more on something when they could have just walked next door or across the street and saved that 10 cents.

Did you ever compare lines in Vegas....

It takes all day, traffic is really bad now, you have to go downtown, which takes a lot of time and after awhile you just take the line.........

Probably more than 1/2 the bets are "cards" but many of these are prepaid contest cards.

When weighted by the amount bet, the parlay cards are likely only around 10% of the action, but 30% of the profits.

The sportsbooks SQUARES in the city is nothing compared to the video poker SQUARES.

It is amazing that such a tremendous high percentage of Vegas residents that play video poker do not know perfect video poker srategy.

These people are around these machines everyday for years and have no clue, and some really think they do.

Even some people that you would consider very sharp and even wiseguys in the sportsbetting field will make comments that they actually believe about video poker that are not remotely close.

It really is an amazing thing.
