Would like to begin by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Coming off a 1-2 evening, winning our first 3* bowl game play on TCU but dropping our two 1* plays in hoops, getting caught by taking Missouri -1 only to see the line close at +1.5 and then a late play on the Lakers -6.5 for the second half after trailing at half time by 15, only to lose by 9. A profit just the same. Today we move on to the Las Vegas Bowl with Oregon State vs New Mexico.
This is a classic match-up between strength vs strength. Oregon State features the extremely powerful running back Steven Jackson versus the New Mexico 3-3-5 defensive scheme which has stopped the run consistently all year. Reversing, New Mexico features Don Trell Moore going up against an Oregon State defense that has also stopped the run well. In the aerial game, Oregon State QB Derek Anderson has tremendous weapons to throw to with speed to spare, can be erratic at times, but is throwing against a defensive secondary that is average and not overly fast. New Mexico QB Casey Kelly is more than capable but will be facing a secondary that has seen much better passing attacks on a weekly basis in the Pac 10. Both teams have huge offensive lines and average size defensive lines. Special teams edge favors New Mexico slightly but both place kickers are good and the punters are fairly equal. The edge is in returns. The feeling here is that the overall team speed of the Beavers may be the difference in this game as well as the level of competition faced. Jackson is the real deal. He not only runs powerfully but his catching ability and then running in the open field is frightening. Belief here is that not only will he get untracked by the receiving corp will as well. Hence,
1* Oregon State -1.5
Overall Unit Record YTD (All Sports): (34-18.8) 64.39% 3*(5-1)(+11.7) 1*(19-14-1)(+3.5)
Overall W/L Record YTD (All Sports): (24-15-1) 61.54%
NCAAF Record YTD: (5-0)(+11.0) (Bowl Game Record 4-0 Included)
NFL Record YTD: (4-4-1)(-2.7)
NCAAB Record YTD: (11-8)(+4.2)
NBA Record YTD: (4-3)(+2.7)
Plays are rated 1*-5*
Good Luck To All and To All A Good Night!
