2 thumbs down!

TRENTON — With his veto pen, Gov. Chris Christie all but ended New Jersey’s efforts to institute sports betting at its casinos and race tracks.
Christie's office announced today that he nixed a bill (S2250) that would have allowed New Jersey to circumvent the 1992 federal law that bans sports betting in most states, after New Jersey’s challenges to the law in court failed.

In doing so, Christie called federal law "sacrosanct," while the sponsor of the bill, state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, said Christie “stuck a dagger in the heart of Atlantic City and our ailing horse racing industry.

I wonder if they will try to put a lot of fantasy sports type games in those casinos since federal law has it exempt

Tend to doubt it, market wouldn't be big enough. Would work better as an additional option with sports betting

What an idiot.

All of these old fogies are just prolonging the inevitable of sports betting & gambling in general becoming legal across the nation & online.

Just going to take time for new, fresh minds to get in there who are up with the times & understand the benefits of it...

Well . . the people in NJ, believe he has given-up on them.
He is apparently looking at the 2016 Presidential Election, and really just doesn't care about his own.

ie: Friday, August 8, 2014
a.
Christie vetoes bill banning fracking waste:
There are currently no fracking operations in New Jersey, but it is a big industry in neighboring Pennsylvania
and some New Jersey facilities have handled the wastewater produced.

b. Gov. Chris Christie will travel to Mexico next month:
for what’s being billed as a diplomatic and trade mission, political observes is another indication
Christie is laying the groundwork for a 2016 presidential campaign.

He wants financial-support .. so he isn't going to piss-off his (R) finance supporters.
ie: Sheldon Gary Adelson ,etc. face)(*^% :>(

It is a far cry . . and a complete about face:

from May 25, 2012:
N.J. Gov. Chris Christie: (AP) ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.
- New Jersey will defy a federal ban and let people bet on the outcomes of football,
basketball and other games this fall, Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday.

"Let them try to stop us from sports betting"

:think2: ^<<^ :hammerit

Real sports betting, not the parlay cards in Delaware is dead and buried outside of Nevada forever. The Supreme Court won't even take the case so only an act of congress can change it.

You nailed it Bundy. The thing the fat man doesn't realize is the only reason he had some early popularity(now gone) is because he wasn't just a run of the mill mouth piece for the party, that he actually appeared to have a spine and a backbone. I guess they were the first things to go in his extreme weight loss.

The thing that sucks is sports betting isn't even a big issue for the general public. He wouldn't lose any votes in the General election because he allowed sports betting. No one cares. It has to be the lobbyists.

It's simple politics...he can veto it and keep the right happy because he knows the legislature will override his veto. NJ gets gambling....Fat Ass gets his money and a year from now he will claim he did defied the federal government and brought gambling to NJ.

This is a huge dagger in AC's heart.......I wonder what AC will look like in 20 years......probably all boarded up from casino to casino.

Just like in Delaware as it was about to happen, the door shut......gotta be the mob & Vegas paying him off in suitcases not wanting competition.

Football season is the mobs bread & butter..........
