THIS TEAM LOOKS VERY HUNGRY, AND REMARKABLY UNSELFISH. IF THEY CONTINUE LIKE THIS, AND SUFFER NO KEY INJURIES, THEY WILL GO THROUGH THE NBA LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER.

I did bet on them tonight and took the udner, but I will admit that they look a little slow for teams like Minnesota or Sacramento

Dallas starts Fortson against Shaq. Fortson played about a grand total of 20 minutes last year. It was more of the Mavs looking terrible than the Lakers looking good. We will see how the age will catch up to the Lakers this season. Mavs do not have any bigs and the players that they have do not want to play defense. Fortson is still out of shape and he had no right even playing in this game let alone starting. Cuban is probably on his cell phone right now trying to lure some height over to Dallas that can defend, rebound, and run the floor. They just don't have it right now and sooner or later he will admit it.

couldnt agree more neverstop. when does the "i think i know basketball better than anyone" crap stop with him?! he is an astute PR guy and treats his fans well but a team that can score a ton of points and doesnt play defense is just that. i think sacramento probably has the model of what hes trying to do. not every team with a center is a low scoring one. the real ingenuity in basketball is having all the proper cogs and then figuring out how to score 110 +

Rob, just curious, will the Celts be any good this year? I haven't really followed their off season goings on.

i think so. vin baker looked good in pre season from what i hear which really suprises me. theres some if's here. but if lafrentz pans out, vin stays healthy and paul is paul that isnt a bad front 3 with ultimately mark blount & tonny battie coming off the bench (he'll start for now) mike james is supposed to be a terrefic point gaurd that they got from miami who has also looked good.

this team definatly has some good pieces i think they can be every bit as good maybe better than the team that went to the eastern finals. there is a lot of ?'s still but i think they are headed the right way. i think this club goes 50-32.

General,

Can we put 300 pounds on your feet 24 hours a day and see how long it is till you have problems with your toes? Then ask you to run around once they actually hurt, jump up and down repeatedly with the weight on them?

I do find it interesting that age is being brought up as a problem.

Yes, the Lakers are not a bunch of folks who should still be in college, with that extra bit of ummph in their legs.

However, if memory does not fail me, the entire roster of the incredible Celtics teams in the 80s was not exactly fast. Nor the Lakers teams from that era, if you break the team down.

Play defense. Find the open man. Pass the ball. Good shot selection.

These are things this Laker team can excel in, things that Payton and Malone will be good at, and things that Kobe still, at this point in his career, does not understand.

As a Laker fan for over 25 years now, I have to say that Kobe is a great talent. Just like every other Jordan wannabe. And just like the others, he is NOT Jordan. If he ever grows up, and learns to play with the team he is on, he will come closer to the mantle he aspires to.

Until then, he is just another wannabe, and a supporting member of the Shaq dynasty.

payton /shaq is better than shaq/kobe combo, thats the bottom line with the lakers.

i saw the game, and i think that if they continue to play this unselfish that they will be a serious threat. Jackson really has an ability to mesh egos. With any other coach, I would say they have no chance, but with jackson, they are a deserving favorite.
