Warner has been given permission to talk with several teams, most prominently the New York Giants, who need a mentor for Eli Manning. Warner could not sign with another team until 5 p.m. Wednesday. ESPN News reports that Warner is expected to sign with Giants soon.

Warner signs with Giants.

While terms of the contract were not disclosed, Warner is believed to have gotten a two-year deal that will pay him $3 million this season, including a $1.5 million signing bonus.

The signing comes a little more than 24 hours after Warner was released in a salary-cap move by St. Louis, ending an improbable run that saw the former Arena League quarterback twice take the Rams to the Super Bowl -- including a victory over Tennessee in 1999.

He better start for them. He has plenty of good years left in him!

They should have never released Collins. This could only be better if he comes out hot and keeps Eli on the bench over the next year. Unfortunately, he is probably less mobile than Collins and if the line has not improved he will certainly feel the pain.

Generally, I agree that he is not a great mentor from a playing standpoint. With that said, I look at Warner less as a mentor and more as a lame duck while Eli gets to experience life as a pro, look at the speed of the game, learn the O (and D), and generally learn about life in the NFL; all without the pressure of winning.

No question Warner wants to compete for the starting job this year. Natrually he knows the Giants HAVE to go with Manning at some point given all the hype surrounding his arrival. On the plus side for Warner is his quick release that should help with Giants re-building Offensive line. Right now if healthy you have to make him favorite to be starter when Giants open at Philly on Sept. 12th.

This is a perfect spot for him. If he can get the protection he needs & has a hand that is truly healthly again, he can have his MVP form reappear again & then sign a nice big contract in a couple of years.

Kurt Warner and first-year Giants coach Tom Coughlin will be a good fit for re-building G-Men.

He appeared washed up to me. He was right guy, right place right time with Rams. Now he is wrong guy, wrong place at wrong time. Giants have an O line that is one of worst in league, for immobile and no pocket sense Kurt. Rams had dream set of rec. Giants nothing close. The place, he goes from Arena indoor, Ram indoor, to ugly weather outdoor Giant stadium. His time, between being brainwashed by religous zealot wife, and zero grip hand strength, is past. He will either get knocked out or benched first month of season. This should be good. Now o/u 5 1/2 un .25 He hurts win total. Giants look more like cellar dwellars every day. OF

The Giants have high quality wideouts. What are you smoking OF? He will have Hilliard, Toomer, Shockey, & Tiki to throw at. These guys aren't pushovers in any sense of the word.

This guy will have every opportunity to succeed on and off the field. The NY papers showed him lots of love today. Frankly, there is a ton of Kool Aid being drunk in NY today, hell, I even reached for my glass but somehow found the strength to refrain from taking a sip.

I agree with 'Frog on this one.....he hasn't shown a damn thing since coming back from that hand injury, and the conditions presented by playing outdoors in the cold and windy conditions won't help.

I'm gonna have to see it happen first before I believe it....Montana didn't do much after coming back from his injury and I think history repeats itself here.

FWIW - I'm not a Giant fan but feel they will be competitive this season. Trying to argue whys and why nots this far ahead of time is never easy because nothing will be settled for months. Looking at what on paper is an unusually easy schedule I can easily see the Giants winning 6 games this year.

FWIW, I'm a Giants fan and I LOVE that schedule. The team had a ton of injuries last year, Tiki fumbled quite a bit (unusual), the O-line was inexperienced, and half-way through the year the team quit on Fassel. If Warner is 3/4 of the guy he used to be the Giants will play well and make the playoffs.

Of course I'm biased but if you watched this team last year you realize that with an improved O-line and better coaching there is no reason the team can't win 9-11 games.
