Kobe's "3" was a "2"......wtf

Love how they want to hype Kobe today, so no one even noticed that his "3-pointer" was a 2 pointer...

His foot was halfway across the 3 point line, no exaggeration.....

Ref calls it a 3, no one says a word, they even show the replay, and its obvious, and neither announcer calls it....wonder why?

Love games like this, where the players "decide" they will play today....

If Kobe is this good, blowing on his fingers, rolling his eyes, etc...then why is he shooting 40% this year, and 31% from 3? why is this team barely over .500, if they can play like this every day...

Just an example of how bad the NBA has become....the players play when they "want to", and if they dont, who cares, they get paid anyway...

Look at Detroit today....is this the same team that lost at home to Atlanta, Chicago, and Charlotte?

If a team is just bad, thats one thing. but when they dont put out the effort day in day out, thats what hurts the league....

Players like Jordan, Magic, Bird, Thomas, Erving, they showed up EVERY NIGHT, not just for the "big audience" that was watching that particular day...

The Nba has become very unpredictable, and a bore to watch.

Refs play favorites and the players only play when they want to. They realize that they will get paid regardless of their performance.

Of course, there were today's prototype forerunners, such as Benoit Benjamin, in those days-- but the successful teams of that day(bos, det, la) had that pride & selfless team play-- Larry Bird worked entire off-seasons on parts of his game he wanted to improve: one example was so he could go to the hoop equally as well with either hand. Benoit, who was usually grossly out of shape by the time a new season started, was asked to work one off-season on some aspect of his game: he declined, saying he wanted to chill instead, that he'd worked too hard during that particular season.

In fact, teams like clippers, atlanta & chicago w/ benjamin/wilkins/jordan were chided that they'd never reach the top echelon until their stars stopped worrying about their personal stats and played more for the team-- this, in combo with early playoff exits, likely contributed in helping Phil Jackson convince Jordan to focus on the team instead.

Cosby had it right about the materialism today: kids are worried about their $500 sneakers & jeans, $1,000 + leather coats-- w/ which to impress their local peers. And as kids grow up, that's only who they still want to impress-- they don't care about having to impress anyone else-- except for maybe other kids & chicks. So now, since money & material possessions determine the pecking order in their world-- it's easy to see how they would feel above their coach-- since their salaries dwarf his, it's not the coach who packs the stands, etc. ANNNDDD, since endorsement contracts dwarf even the biggest salaries, guess what's more important to them: showbiz or the sport.

2004 NBA is definatly better than any season the 80's had to offer. .in the 80's and the 90's there were never more than 2 or 3 teams a season who could win a title. just dont get what is so exciting about that.

i like the parity and superior athleticism of todays athlete. .it doesnt look like team play becuase theyre not in slow motion like the 80's players. maybe modern NBA is too fast for the common observer?! they do flip the ball around quick ill give you that.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>For the money they're making & the ticket/pay per view prices we fans are paying-- they'd better be up every minute of every game-- esp since they don't even play every day of the season, they have personal gofers, valets, masseuses, nutritionists, trainers, assistants up the kazoo, etc. Tell the average work drone to tell his boss he/she's just not up to work optimally that day because of house chores, staying out drinking the nite before, lack of massage therapy, etc.-- and that he/she needs staggered work days like basketball players-- see where that would lead...

These egotists need a dose of their own medicine: how about if the advance scouts(not to mention the subs that afford them a rest during the game, etc.) tell them: sorry Homer, don't have such a great report on your opponent today-- the day i watched him play I wasn't at my best, so i missed a lot of the crucial details-- you're going to have to make up for it on your own, by playing a little harder today-- gee, hope you don't have to mess up your manicure!!

Tell this to Larry Bird, whose career was cut short because he unhesitantly dove for too many loose balls!! Tell this to Walton, Parrish, McHale-- who played despite not being able to walk without limping / hobbling!!

No slack, no mercy, no quarter given from this end.

I think they would prefer that the Lakers win this game, its obvious..

They made mention of how Kobe's jerseys arent selling like they used to, none are in the top 20..

They want the money, and to help erase his bad image, and he is "on display" today..

Hell, Odom, showed up the official after a foul, RAN TO THE OTHER END OF THE COURT, and hung on the rim....NO TECHNICAL.....since when is that NOT A TECHNICAL?

They just ignored it...

Not saying the game is rigged, i just think they would "prefer" that the Lakers win, and therefore have been some VERY QUESTIONABLE calls.....

The 3 pointer was obvious though, that was a joke.....not so much that the call was missed, but that no one, even the announcers MENTIONED IT....

If i were Miami right now with 3 sec differential on the shot clock, i would take it down to 1 sec, and throw the ball up in the air as far as i could.....by the time it dropped, and someone caught it, clock would have run out.........

But of course they didnt..

That was due in large part to commitment to excellence, the essence of capitalism & personal accountability: hard work & smarts rewarded by appropriate success.

In contrast we now have the NFL socialism/take profits from the successful & distribute them to the inepts, & Parity=foment mediocrity, bring the top teams down a notch to make the bad ones look better.

Yes, today's players are more athletic & bigger-- they have grossly outgrown the playing court dimensions-- couple this with all the unsportsmanlike taunting & other gangsta culture attributes / general dwindling of gentlemanly behavior, selfish & spoiled attitudes, along w/ psycho drug effects-- and you get today's baskets & hockey: WWF but for real, not staged. Same goes for today's fans-- games are just not ideal family outings anymore.

i was thinking the same thing which is why i felt the lakers needed to foul someone - but the heat did the dumb thing but not doing what we thought they should have - but still won - so they get the last laugh

The clock stops when the 24-second clock expires, not when the ball comes down. If the ball was in thrown up with 1 second left on the shot clock (4 seconds on the game clock) and it was in the air for 5 seconds, the time left on the game clock would be 3 seconds.

Wasnt Al Michaels the annoucer for this game??? That should tell you why he never said anything about Kobes 3 that was a 2. Our man Al had the OVER today and like all of us he is since it went over thanks to OT!

The clock stops when the 24-second clock expires, not when the ball comes down. If the ball was in thrown up with 1 second left on the shot clock (4 seconds on the game clock) and it was in the air for 5 seconds, the time left on the game clock would be 3 seconds.

i referee hoops - and all i can say here is you are right - and wrong. you are right as far as just tossing the ball in the air. but what me and bucsfan might have been trying to say is if i am miami, when the shot clock gets to 1 - fire a shot towards the rim. throw it high so that if it hits the rim it bounces high in the air. if they let the ball go with 1 second on the shot clock - and 4.4 on the game clock - by the time the ball hits the rim there is about 3.4 or less on the clock. after the ball bounces high off the rim and then is caught by the lakers there is about 1-2 seconds left - for as long as the ball leaves the shooter's hand with time on the 24 second clock it is a live ball - and then if it hits the rim it is NOT a shot clock violation and thus a live ball meaning NO 24-second violation. this is what miami should have done if they couldn't get a decent shot off - which they didn't.
