Bas is one of the greats. One of the first rounded MMA fighters.

He only fought in the UFC twice. That is why alot of people haven't heard of him. He fought in Pancrase much of his life and was at his peak in the mid 90s.

He has wins over Frank Shamrock, Kevin Randleman, Guy Mezger, and alot of other guys that most fans nowadays don't know.

28-4-1 with 2 of his 4 losses coming to Ken Shamrock when Ken was dominating.

I'd also bet Fryklund +234 tonight as a small bet. Cung Le is looking very good but has fought crappier fighters and only has 3 pro fights. Cung is an excellent striker but has been fighting nobodies and really isn't tested at all.

Fryklund is a veteran and although Le could easily catch him, Le's ground game is largely untested although there is alot of talk on how he can do things. Fryklund can definitely end the fight from the top.

Anyway, if you want a nice dog in a huge question mark match, that's a bet I'd make for a small amount. It probably has decent value, but no one really knows for sure.

I highly doubt it - I think internet legend is where his fighting ends - how is he going to have any success with no ground game and questionable stand up at best - boy I'd love to see Mirko plant that LHK across that goatee - he'll probably lose to Mercer - it's here in Miami and I would love to go but I'm certain there will be several stabbings at the fight so I'll wait for TV - could you imagine the crowd that goes to see Kimbo versus Mercer in Kimbo's first real fight in Miami - might as well just hold it at San Quentin.

Ray Mercer isnt exactly a spring chicken himself anymore ... , I was kinda of surprised to seeing Kimbo as a 2/1 fav though ... I wouldnt be surprised if the fix was in on this one too ... Considering Kimbo is an up and coming name they want to break into the biz , and the Merciless one is a has been whose luckilly to still be in the biz ... I wanna see it nonetheless ... and probably will ...

Other UFC bets:

Manny -110 over Nate Diaz

Manny's short and stout and is going to be hard for Diaz to sub. The only way I see Nate winning is by decision but he hasn't shown he's strong enough to take a guy like Manny down, much less hold him there. The only way I see Diaz winning is if he just runs from Manny all day and keeps his distance and just uses the jab. I can't see a Diaz brother fighting a fight like that. Manny via decision. Should be -150.

Emerson +321 over Gray Maynard

Emerson showed decent takedown defense and he's experienced. Gray looks very good but he's still really new to the sport. Gray probably wins, but should not be this big of a dog at all.

Lauzon at -530 over Melendez is a nice bet but I'm not gonna touch the juice. Melendez will keep it standing and Lauzon will likely catch him. If not, Lauzon can take him down at will and GNP him. I like Melendez, he actually beat my roommate about 8 months ago, but that's a bad matchup for him. I'm not betting it, but it has some value if huge favs are someone's bag.

I agree with Manny, but no way Emmerson beat Gray. Gray was training with Randy Couture well before this show. I'm assuming this is totally a value bet. Thanks for the input Jake.

Have to agree w/ you...I haven't been too impressed w/ Emerson's ability...unless its a value bet, Gray seems to be much better.

agree w/ WMU on Gray. Emerson is ok, but Gray is an elite wrestler and was dropping BOMBS on Diaz before getting caught in that Guillotine.

I don't know anything about the guy that fights Allen Berube, but Berube was probably the worst guy on TUF. Also think Cole Miller handles Andy Wang, but he has a big price. I may parlay Cole/Berube opponent/Lauzon together. Still an ugly price at almost 2 to 1.

Don't know what to think about Manny/Diaz. Manny is a real pit bull and strong, but Diaz is ridiculous with his submissions. He was trying all sorts of shit on Maynard and had a few of them.

Never heard of Bas Rutten. I will take Mercer though. I don't think Kimbo has the endurance. When is the fight?

Don't feel bad - Urlacher did not know who he was either - he came very close to finding out until his friends told him who Bas was - and then the big tough guy shut his mouth real quick.

And Kimbo has zero MMA experience - I don't see how Kimbo's ground game can be any better than Mercers - it's hard to have much of an opinion when neither has ever fought.

not entirely sure about this, but I think I heard this isn't really an MMA fight. I believe there is no ground game permitted, only kicks and punches. Again, I AM NOT SURE, just something I heard.

haha- yes, thats the best story ever. I wouldve paid a lot of money to see Urlacher 'try' to pick a fight w/ Bas. Story never gets old.

Nope, in Jersey. You going to order the fight?

I probably won't order this one - my cable bill is getting near $500 a month every month (though, it includes cable internet) - there's alot of UFC stuff coming that's good - not like that Belfast crap show - Forrest fucking Gump one of the premier fights?

Is this a great thread or what? If I had mentioned something about Shogun (a top 5 pfp figher - probably the second best over fighter) no one would have responded other that Jake - but you mention "Kimbo" and they come out of the woodworks - well, I guess the more attention the sport gets the faster it grows.

I see Shamrock dominated Baroni - only an idiot like me did not take Shamrock - he just looked so horrible against Gracie - I woud love to see Henderson get back into 185 and see him fight Shamrock

You're right...Shamrock pretty much beat his ass silly. I'm surprised he made it as far as he did. That rear naked wasn't deep at all, but the lights were still about to go out.

Shocking:
_______________________________________________________________
We are live on PPV. Video package for Kimbo/Mercer, the crowd is wincing with each of the punches in Mercer's old fights. Tank Abbott is here and the crowd gives him an ovation, looks like he's making his way- OH MY GOD a fight just broke out in the stands, the crowd is going wild as security rushes in. It's impossible to hear the commentators. Hilarious.

Crowd chants for Kimbo. Mercer comes out to "Momma Said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J. Mixed cheers and boos for Mercer but most people want to see Kimbo. Kimbo comes out to "This Is Why I'm Hot", clearly showing Melvin Guillard's cultural influence. Everyone is on their feet. Cheers drown out boos when Mercer is announced, but the crowd is erupting for Kimbo. They only announce him as "Kimbo" without the Slice. What happened? They jaw a bit during the standoff, crowd is on fire.
