figured id post this heer since i know how everyone just loves the Vols at the rx

if this is any indication of Kiffins furure success at UT , he will be immortalized. the fans are thrilled with the hires. he cherry picked the other SEC staffs. he missed on a couple but hit on a lot

to quote Kiffin “To be able to take South Carolina’s recruiting coordinator, Mississippi State’s recruiting coordinator, Alabama’s best recruiter and Auburn’s best recruiter over the past 10 years was a great accomplishment for us,”

He went after Garner and Gonzales (recruiting coordinators from GA and FL as well)

Ed Orgeron - 2004 rivals.com national recruiter of the year, along with Lane Kiffin he played huge part in building USC dynasty. Also built current the Ole Miss team which could be preseason top 10-15 in 2009

Monte Kiffin - his father and arguably the best DC in the history of the NFL. in 12 yrs at Tampa bay he had a top 10 defense 10 times. Known for the "tampa two" defense

David Reaves - was Spurriers recruiting coordinator and qb coach at SC and lane's bro-in-law

Lance Thompson - LB coach comes from Sabans staff where he was the 2008 rivals.com national recruiter of the .nuff said.

Frank Wilson - hired last week as Miss St recruiting coordinator. oops, Lane KIffin called and hes off to knoxville as WR coach

Eddie Gran - rb and special team coach , was at Auburn in 2008 . has coached Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnsom, Duece Mcallister

Jim Chaney - plucked from the St Louis Rams where he was an assistant will be the OC. well known for being able to evaluate talent early he was in charge of Purdues nationally ranked offense from like 95 to 05

James Cregg - was on Kiffins staff with the Raiders will be the TE coach

Mark Smith - strength and conditioning coach , also left Spurriers staff to come to Knoxville

Willie Garza - has been DC at N DakotaSt past 4 years, played at Texas as a db in early 90's

CP,

I'm not overly impressed w/ Kiffin at all....but he did a good job hiring his staff. We'll see what happens on the field soon enough. I think the SEC is a better conference when UT (and Auburn) has a strong program.....

yeah hes unproven as a coach no doubt. but hes literally filled his staff with a dream team of coaches. 2,3,4 months ago the vol fanbase was in turmoil and split with the coaching change but so far hes done everything possible to make the team better. and even exceeded the high expectations of the vol fansthere is joy in knoxville once again.

the vols have as many NFL prospects as any team in the SEC already. last season was just a disaster that started at the top. ill bite my tongue on predictions, but the future looks bright once again for the program that has won more games in the last 80 years than anyone else

oh , and alabama is 0-2 since he was hired

CP,

I think 8-4 for UT next year would be a success. I think their problem (or success) will lay on the QB. If the QB plays well....they go 8-4/9-3....if the QB stinks?? Who knows? It seems many coaches lately have had a lot of success in their second season (Nutt had a good year this year in year 1 at Ole Miss).....

i think most would call 8-4 after 5-7 a success but id not be satisfied. id like a 10-2. the main problem with the QB play (oc clawson) is gone. crompton isnt the answer . i think hes mentally fucked for life after what he went through. but stephens is good enough to win games with the weapons around him

kiffin pulled a scholarship offer from tajh boyd right after beign named coach, telling the kid he would not fit the system . hes a 4 star qb who will likely follow tee martin to oregon now. i think the system kiffin will run and Chaney ran at Purdue would be fine for any of our current QB's. i fully expect the vols to get a big time QB next year from hs or juco so the target year is more like 2011 for a "big" year

the dark cloud of negativitiy has been lifted. its like everybody last year played at 50%, how quick can that be fixed?

boyd was a five star qb and was the co mvp of the army all star game. inthat game he looked better than pryor did the year before.

Looks like he is down to clemson and oregon. i was surprised kiffin blew the kid out and wonder if he regrets it.

sounds like Kiffin only wants pro-style QB's. He probably asked the kid if he would consider swithcing positions and the kid said he wanted to play QB so Kiffin said see ya.

That's an interesting point. Of course you know that when Kiffin was at USC, they used a pro-set offense exclusively and they still do. Hmmmm... Maybe that is some kind of hint about Tennessee's next offense. They may end up an NFL quarterback mill like USC is too if he brings all that with him. Carroll has always hired the best AC's and trained them well.

yeah..supposedly boyd is too small at 6'1 to play in the new offense.

tn has fared well at QB already (except for 08) . this is nothing new, dont get crazy. every starter since 92 has been drafted - albeit a short list (shuler, manning, martin, claussen, ainge) 5 qb's in 15 yrs before last year - all with great college careers - even the qb before them, andy kelly is the arena leagues all time passing leader or some shit

ok rant over...but dont dare act like kiffin is introducing QB play to UT.

Coach O can recruit, no doubt about it. The players will hate him though due to his personality.

Frank Wilson is an OK coach with some good recruiting connections in S LA. I wouldn't expect a ton from him.

Skip it. It's about your HC now, not about USC's QB's. At least you should be happy to know that when he was the OC at USC, he did pretty well with that so you can expect more of the same from him. Kiffin will find them and sign them and turn them into pro QB's with an offense that fits the NFL like a glove.

wow, so mayeb the staff was not complete when i thought it was

Mitch Browning who was the OC at Syracuse last year is coming to join the team as an unpaid graduate assistant. Since the Syracuse staff was let go along with the HC last year Syracuse will be paying a buyout while he works at UT.

Whos next? Jon Gruden? Hes unemployed and he was a GA at UT years ago. Thatd really be crazy

There are only two more weekends for recruiting visits and the Vols have a LOT of 4 and 5 stars coming in these next two weekends. This weekend mens hoops play Memphis at home, the recruits should love that. Next weekend is when most are coming, the Vols happen to host Florida that weekend.

Is Alshon Jeffery still suppose to be coming up there this weekend? I'm going to go ahead and say I don't think he will be. Spurrier brought all 5 of his new coaches to see him today and he will be at South Carolina next week. Carrol is coming in tomorrow I believe and already didn't want him taking any more visits but Kiffin is also suppose to see Jeffery tomorrow as well

Jeffery Tells Spurrier He Will Visit
By Phil Kornblut

WR Alshon Jeffery of Calhoun County had his in home visit with USC head coach Steve Spurrier Wednesday and agreed to make his official visit which is scheduled for January 31st. Joining Spurrier on the visit from USC were Steve Spurrier Jr., Shane Beamer, Jay Graham and Eric Wolford. The Gamecock coaches arrived in St. Matthews in time for basketball practice and watched Jeffery before going to his home. "It will come down to the visits," said a source familiar with Jeffery's thinking. "Southern Cal still leads but the question is does he want to go that far." Jeffery will be visited Thursday morning by Southern Cal head coach Pete Carroll and four of his assistants. Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and assistant David Reaves were to visit as well on Thursday but Jeffery has to attend the funeral of a cousin, so that visit has been rescheduled for next week. Jeffery will take his official visits this weekend to Tennessee. While at the high school, the USC coaches and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney watched junior OL Eric Mack during basketball practice. New USC offensive line coach Eric Wolford plans to recruit Mack personally along with his Gamecock terretorial recruiter.

What did Reaves do?

Since he has left he has been negatively recruiting against South Carolina. He is the reason Giles picked SC over Tennessee because he saw through the shit that Reaves was spewing. You can't go selling a recruit on South Carolina on Monday to telling them on Tuesday how bad of a decision it would be to go to South Carolina and attend Tennessee. Reaves is now negatively recruiting with Alshon Jeffery, and has been since his hire. You don't do things like that against your former employer. Karma is a bitch. He already wasn't liked amongst many high school coaches as it is in the state. South Carolina isn't the biggest of states but it has some damn good recruits that don't always go to the 2 state schools and they get away to some out of state schools. Tennessee isn't going to find much luck there in the future.
