</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>They're only 12 and 15-years-old, but police say two Greenville Middle Academy students gambled on school grounds. One of the parents tells FOX Carolina, he thinks the arrests go too far.
Police say they were caught flipping. That's when you throw a coin against the wall. The person who throws the coin that lands closest to the wall gets whatever is in the pot. It's considered gambling and that's what those kids are charged with.
Right across the street from Patty Lovetro's house, is Greenville Middle Academy, where her son and daughter are in school. It didn't take long before she found out about Tuesday's alleged gambling incident.
"We were wondering, were they flipping cards, coins? We don't know what flipping is."
She now knows flipping is considered an illegal form of gambling. A teacher says she caught a 12-year-old and 15-year-old student flipping in the middle of class. Police say a resource officer had warned them, they would be arrested if they did it again. They were arrested, after the teacher claims the 15-year-old tried to challenge her.
"I was surprised, because I didn't think anything like that was going on over there. I thought kids would be too busy for that."
One of the student's parents didn't want to talk on camera, but described his son as an honor student. He was surprised and shocked. And also saddened by the fact that it came down to an arrest. He believes it should have been handled within school doors.
Lovetro understands why the boys had to be charged.
"We've all done something, but I think mainly it's a behavior thing. If someone tells you to stop it at school, you should stop it."
Another form of flipping, calling heads or tails, and the winner takes the jackpot. The father I spoke with says the arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
