.......that's the list of 13

Lots of things can & will change from.now until Derby day.......

I'm just waiting for the annual 11black laughfest derby preview!

Dortmund has looked impressive and size wise is a man amongst boys..concerned these bruising stretch duels with firing line will catch up to him at some point

upstart I think is the real deal

one you didn't mention is far from over who won the withers after a horrible break. Horse had no business winning that race. Well ridden throughout and turned on the jets and blew past the field after spotting them 5 plus lengths at the start.

calculator is hurt and off the trail.

couple big names still awaiting there first start of the year..carpe diem who ran a really good second in the BC juvy and crushed at keeneland in the fall. He runs this weekend in Tampa. Also American pharaoh who was the cream of the 2 year old crop before getting hurt. The odds are stacked against him after missing time but he is working lights out and is going to ship to Arkansas for his return. Texas red who won the BC juvy appears to be falling apart..has had some injury issues and is swimming as opposed to training at the moment...not a good sign

Good stuff Tanner......

I can't understand why Texas Red's trainer put him in s 7f race? I know he was coming off a layoff of several months, but when you're pointing your horse for the KD, never race him in a 7f race from beginning of Jan to the derby.

I hate seeing trainers doing stupid setups like this for their horse.

Didnt know Calculator was injured, thanks for the info.

I definitely think the Apollo curse of non-raced horses as a 2 year old since 1882 will be broken , but don't think it will happen this year.

As of now, I don't see any Big Brown or Cali Chromes in this years crop.......you could have easily picked Chrome last year as your horse for the derby before the Santa Anita derby.

Will we see a long shot this year, or another fav?

Gonna be an interesting 5 weeks of prep races.......a few horses will run 2 more times, but most will run only once more if I'm correct.

3 big races coming up this weekend....Gotham,San Felipe and the Tampa Derby....85 points to the winner in each race.
These are essentially win-and-you're-in races.

El Kabeir should win the Gotham.

I actually think this is a good crop this year. Nowadays the road to the derby is so bizarre its hard to get a gauge on. Some of the horses ate getting such a late start that they are going to have 1 chance at scoring points and if they misfire or have a setback its game over.

khozan is getting alot of buzz but I'm pretty sure he's an unraced at 2 candidate and also sitting with zero points.

prospect park has also become a kinda wise guy horse and is running this weekend. He shows that push button move that is critical in the Calvary charge of the derby.

firing line is heading to Sunland derby. Primarily to get the hell away from Dortmund. Like this horse alot but same rules apply as with Dortmund..have the tooth and nail stretch battles taken there toll?

Firing Line will race at Sunland on March 22, his last race before the derby.......

Dortmund was pointed towards the Santa Anita derby, but since he's eager to run & doing so well, Baffert stated he's gonna run this Saturday in the San Felipe......I'm guessing Dortmund will run in the SA derby as well since there will be about 7 weeks after the San Felipe to the KD.

I agree, lots of nice horses with supposed talent this year.......last year not so. It was a man against boys with Chrome.

Carpe Diem looked much the best after a long layoff, & he received 50 points which puts him into the KD.......I'm.expecting him to run once more before the KD

I can scratch Oceans Knight off my list........he looked terrible!

Dortmund look impressive as well.......this is the biggest horse you will see in the KD. He reminds me a bit of Point Given.

I'm surprised Baffert hasn't tried to rate him in these longer races. He will race once more, probably in the Santa Anita derby on April 4th.......

OchoOchoOcho will be scratched off my list, poor performance......

I like to see horses give at least a half decent try in their final 2 races.

I can't see Dortmund wiring the field in the KD. I hope he wins the SA & goes in undefeated, I'm seeing several horses that will take a ton of money & we will possibly see boxcars in payouts......long shot city!

I heard several commentators state their pick for the KD before the prep races ran today was Carpe Diem.......& he won pulling away after a 4 month layoff & I don't think he was fully cranked up........final time was 1:43:65

Dortmund's final time was 1:41:65.......Santa Anita is a fast track, so the 2 seconds faster by*Dortmunds time over Carpe shouldn't surprise you.

I think Carpe Diem will get a better Beyer figure than Dortmund.

El Kabeir closed from back behind horses.......not his usual style, but an improvement knowing he had dirt kicked back in his face & still got thru to win by 2 3/4 lengths......

The only important races I see remaining in March are the Rebel next Saturday March 14.........

March 22nd in Sunland will highlight Firing Line........

March 28: Louisiana Derby & Florida Derby.......

I don't see much action coming out of the Spiral or the UAE derby........

Here's the list of horses I still like after March 7th, with pending races to come........this list will get smaller.......hoping to narrow this list down to 3 to 4 horses after the final races on April 11th.......lots of talent these year.........Pletcher & Baffert have lots of talent, & would love to see them both have 3 horses in the KD.........:

Frosted

Blofeld

El Kabeir (looked good closing from.behind after having dirt kicked in his face)

ItsAKnockOut

UpStart

War Story

Carpet Diem (ran awesome after a long 4 month layoff)

Dortmund (5 for 5.......he's a beast, & I'm hoping he wins at Santa Anita.......if so, he will be an overwhelming fav in Kentucky & will leave most other horses over valued)

Firing Line (very interested to see him run at Sunland, after losing back to back by a head & a nose to Dortmund, his owner & trainer don't want any part of Dortmund.......if he wins at Sunland, hes in the derby & will most likely rest for 5 weeks going into the KD)

Imperia

International Star

.......that's the list of 11 now........saw Prospect Park close on Dortmund but he was no match.......don't see much competition from Prospect Part in the KD.

Lots of things can & will change from.now until Derby day.......horses will fall off the trail because of injuries, etc.......hopefully we can find a nice long shot for the 2015 KD

I thought carpe diem would need a race and put to the bluegrass...guess not. Impressive off the layoff. Something seemed to go amiss with ocean knight.

Dortmund refuses to lose. Think I've seen him battle back in 3 of his 5 wins. Horse has heart

I think Pletcher is trying to get as many horses entered in the KD, as is Baffert, & with this point system, you can't mess around, wins are needed very much so......

With this new point system, horses like Mine That Bird & Giacomo would never have gotten in the KD.

I like this new point system.......trainers don't play as many games with the races leading up to the KD.

Knowing Baffert, he will try to take Dortmund undefeated going into the KD.......if he can't win the big race, at least he would have taken an undefeated horse in there.

Dortmund is impressive, but IMO, he's more fit for the Preakness & Belmont Stakes........I think a 20 horse field will be too much for him.

Dortmund received a 104 beyer figure, pretty impressive.........

Carpe Diem a 98.......I thought he would have received about 102........I guess with the slow time closing had a lot to do with it.

El Kabeir received an 89.......thought that number would be higher as well.

The owner & trainer of Firing Line are possibly looking to race once more after the Sunland derby on March 22nd......I'm assuming if all goes well, he might be rested for over 41 days.......don't really know if you want to rest this horse that much, but we will see........

Firing Line will be a big play for me in 2 weeks .......win & place bets......can't wait for that race.

They were thinking of racing him.in the SA derby vs Dortmund, but knowing how he got best twice vs Dortmund, no way will they race him in that race.
