...can anyone give me a single reason to lay off the Wildcats in this game? It isn't so much a bet for Kentucky as it is against Vanderbilt. I'm looking at taking Kentucky for the exact same reasons I'm looking at Houston over Army tomorrow.

The Wildcats aren't great, but they've shown they're capable of blowing out the awful teams (like Mississippi State and Indiana...and Vandy certainly falls into the awful category). I don't think the Wildcats will still be bummed about the Arkansas marathon two weeks ago; in fact, they may want to get back on the field ASAP and take their frustrations out on someone because of it. Enter Vanderbilt...the worst team in the SEC.

Vandy just flat out sucks from top to bottom. Not a very scientific analysis, but you can't say much else about them. 8 straight losses, no conference wins. Nothing really points to this being a competitive game...I'm seeing a final score of something like Kentucky 41, Vandy 13.

Thoughts?

Think you're on the right track.
The "Pillsbury-Throw Boy" will destroy VANDY's secondary.

The Commodores are one of the better 1-9 teams in the country. Vanderbilt gave Florida a strong run last week, they came close v. South Carolina, they frustrated Georgia and only lost by a touchdown to Georgia Tech. Only Auburn has managed to hammer the Commodores at home and the Tigers were a good team then. I like Vanderbilt getting more than a touchdown at home vs. this losing team this week. Vanderbilt is currently looking for a reason to feel good about their season and any win will do. They view Kentucky as a team they can beat and they will play accordingly. Look for a strong effort from Vanderbilt and a possible straight up win.

"One of the better 1-9 teams in the country?!?" I dunno, LSUP. It's one thing if a team actually won a game or two and has a record of 3-6, but 1-9? With their only win against d-1aa Chattanooga back in September? Just because the Commodores really want a win doesn't mean they're talented enough to actually pull it off. I know this line screams for you to bet the Cats, but I think I'd be outsmarting myself if I didn't.

I can understand Florida looking flat against Vandy. After all, UF won 3 huge games in a row against LSU, Arkansas, and Georgia...who gives a damn about playing the freaking Commodores after that? Zook knew he could sleepwalk through the game and still win comfortably...and they did. The Gators were never in any real danger of losing that one.

As far as the game against South Carolina...the Gamecocks were up 28-3 in the middle of the 3rd when Lou Holtz called off the dogs. Vandy's points were all garbage...the game wasn't as close as the final score would indicate.

Georgia is an overrated team IMO...but after they flubbed their way through the first half against Vandy, they quickly got their game in gear and blew them out easily in the 2nd half.

Here's why I see UK covering: if the game tomorrow is close in the 2nd half, UK will keep the pressure on until it isn't close. If the Cats are blowing Vady out early, chances are they won't let them get a backdoor cover within 7...they'll keep it at a 2 score game. 7 is not an unreasonably high # to lay...

No matter how you slice it and dice it, Vandy hasn't shown the ability to close out a game in any way. So I'm going to keep going against them until they do.

A fair line on this one would be UK -12 IMO. Wildcats should roll...
