Nobody keeps records with NHL betting as we all know its a total dart throw and are all down money. But on a positive note its the best sport in the world and love watching it but most of us can cap for the life of us with way too many invariables on a given night. Too much random shit goes down that does not make sense on paper!

All 10 guys in the NHL capping contest I will bet you know the NHL, teams, and players inside out and all but one are minus units. That does not happen at such a significant rate by coincidence. It is proven evidence that NHL capping is one of the hardest things to do in the long run with so many variables. BUT once again on a positive note we all love THE GAME!

NBA and basketball in general is much more of a "dart throw" IMO.

I do best in NHL and NFL but I guess everyone has their sport(s) which they specialize in and do well.

I would say football as they dont play as often. In sports like NHL, NBA and MLB they are very tough to cap because of the frequency of games in the season teams will take nights off (so to speak) all the time. You dont see that as much in leagues where they only play only once a week like in football. They come ready to play. For example would you prefer having a LARGE wager on a random Tuesday night NHL game that is the teams 47th of 82nd game or a mid season Saturday CFB or Sunday NFL game where the team is playing their 7th of lets say 16th game?

that's what i use to keep track of my games.

anyway to set up excel to do what that does?
specifically the part where you input the amount you want to risk > then the amount you are going to win and it spits out what the line is.

and something that would keep the running total. im have never used excel in my life, is there a way to make excel do these things?

i got a notebook. i keep the scores, team totals, and periods if they go over 1.5 or under.
i mainly play team totals. i look for small streaks where teams haven't scored much. if they go 3 games in a row without hitting a few, i'd say they're due. it's not a given. have to use my intuition. most of the time it works out ok.

would never include columbus or ottawa. not right now anyway.

I have an in-house spreadsheet to track Actual Results of NHL and NBA games

As for my own records, I've been keeping a steady and consistent tracking record here on the RxForum for all sports going back over two years now.

And for my RealWorld wagering, I have several file folders with all my bet sheets going back a couple years.

Though I may soon switch to a cyber sheet, kept in Excel form (Open Office actually, but able to clone with Save As).

I routinely mail my in-house Excel sheets to myself at my yahoo email address so that in the event of any kind of cyber meltdown on my primary PC, I can easily regain all the data.

Plus I can then, if desired and away from home office Desktop, pull down my full Sheets into my laptop or into any remote PC that has MS Excel or OpenOffice.

If you've never used Excel, I suggest simply going in and practicing with it. There are numerous resources on the web and also via Amazon (used copies of "Excel for Dummies" etc) that can educate you on how to make it work.

If your system does not currently have MS Excel, you can download a clone - Open Office - at OpenOffice.com for free.

Files created in OO can be Saved As Excel so that they can then be read on an Excel program if you happen to be using a different computer.

I'd be happy to send anyone a copy of my current spreadsheet in either Excel or OO format. By having a working Sheet on hand, you can more easily study how the basic formulas are written.

By that, I mean, the formulas that will take all the numbers from one set of fields (Wins for example) and tally them all either down a column or across a row.

When you get formulas installed, you can then enter a Result in one place and have it immediately impact numerous Tallies.

But most important is just to open the spreadsheet program (excel or OO) and play around with it.

I also use Excel, but as I'm sure JOH can attest mine is a little...cumbersome and confusing. If you want to see it send me a pm with your email address.

yep...send me your email via PM

If you highlight any box on the sheet which is a Total (sum) of other fields, you can then look up into the forumla bar and see how the formula is formatted. From that, you can then practice and create some boxes which sum up other boxes.

You can also go to any of my "Master" sheets and use them as a foundation to insert your own preferred data. The Masters already have the formulas installed to add up pertinent columns and rows.
