Article in the OKC paper said Coach Stoops might start running up scores on opponents so that west coast voters will be impressed with the sooners scores. I don't know if this is any help to anyone, but be carefull going against OU this weekend.

OU is 2-4 ATS this year. Their high ranking comes with high lines. 27 seems like too many to me against a much improved Kansas team.

Stoops vs Mangino

A blowout in the OU-Kansas game is a possibility. But remember also that Stoops and head Kansas coach Mangino are good friends from Mangino's days as offensive coach at OU during their 2000 championship run.. So Stoops might call off the dogs if the score gets too out of hand. Either way the game doesn't look like a good play this weekend.

I agree that this is a good game to stay away from, GoSooners. KU is improved, but I don't see how they will score a TD against the Sooners in Norman, regardless of OU's sandwich situation, etc. KU will be lucky to score at ALL. They scored 8 points (2 FGs, safety) in Lincoln, all off of turnovers by the inept Husker offense. +27 may look tempting, but I would not be surprised to see a final score of 49-0.

I think 27 is to many in this spot. Kansas should cover here. Sandwich spot for OU, and Kansas has played them well historically covering the spread 6-2 in the last 8. If Ou gets up by 21 to 28 they will sit starters leading to a backdoor cover by Kansas.

I doubt that Coach Stoops needs ANY encouragement RUTS. He would run it up on his brother if he got the chance. Trouble is, that this year's team just can't seem to do it.

Lupica beware: Sooners may pad scores

By Carter Strickland
The Oklahoman

NORMAN - In a game that was all but over and out of reach for the opponent, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops still had a decision to make. Up 28-13 and on the Texas Tech 1-yard line, the internal debate commenced:

“We should probably run it in here to get to 35-13,” Stoops said he thought. “We were on the 1-yard line and there was plenty of time to do it,” Stoops said. “The other side of me says, ‘Well that’s a guy I coached with across the way there that helped us start this turnaround.’ I tried to stick to principles and I just don’t believe in that.”

A couple of weeks later disbelief washed over Sooner fans as OU was pegged as No. 3 in the first BCS poll. Now, as a result of that, Stoops has decided he may do what columnist Mike Lupica once erroneously accused him of - run up the score. “... there is a point you might have to (score more points) when it gets down to if you’re trying to impress voters maybe in other parts of the country that haven’t seen the game that are looking at the score and looking at statistics and wanting to see, ‘Hey how did you really play here?’” Stoops said. “Another score helps you in that regard.”

It was Stoops’ regard for Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, a former OU assistant, that kept the OU coach from calling for another play. Stoops said he now realizes Leach, a notorious score padder, would never quibble with anyone for scoring late. “Of all people who shouldn’t complain it’d be Leach,” Stoops said. “And I know he wouldn’t. I’m sure he was surprised we didn’t. He said in basketball when you’re up big they don’t start shooting airballs. In golf they don’t start shanking shots. Why is it football is the only one you don’t score? As always Mike had a great analogy.”

Stoops will face another former assistant, Kansas coach Mark Mangino, this week. It’s probably a safe bet KU, a 27-point underdog, will be shown no mercy if OU has a chance to score late. “I think it’s fair to say in some of those instances we might do something different if need be,” Stoops said.

I think Oklahoma is going through the same thing USC has gone through, which is to be questioned when they don't win by 40 points. It is true, one decisive win can take the heat off, but beating Kansas by 40 isn't the same as beating a Texas A&M or an OK State by 40. I think Stoops knows that if he wins the rest of his games, they will play in the national championship, so I don't really think this whole BCS mess / hype will impact this weeks game....Obviously when then line is -27.5 you are expected to win big. But it might when they play the better teams on their schedule and they are only favored by 7 or 10.

Truly,

I don't see how you think Kansas won't score...I mean, it's not like Oklahoma is playing Texas this week:aktion033
