Derby I had proud clarion & I remember
when the announcer said 'and out of the mist comes Proud Clarion' it
was so foggy he finally was able to
see the contenders with about a furlong to go.
1968 the 3 yr. old year of two of the top 10 races horses ever to race. Dr. Fager
who wasn't ready to run in the TC races & his nemesis Damascus
who lost the Derby to Proud Clarion but won the Preakness & Belmont.
The Belmont is 3/8 of a mile longer and 2 horses only needed an extra 100 yards to win, they were
gaining fast. I think it will be like Majestic Prince in the Belmont as one writer said about MP he
tried to run a double into a triple.
