Just can't seem to win...looking for some tips

I would like some feedback in what ways people have found to make money in betting games when you dont cap the games themselves. I'm sure there are a lot of people who visit this forum just to follow others and toss in a few games a week on their own.

From past experience I look at 3-5 guys across the forum and pick some decent plays but 8 times out of 10 i'll end up having a bad day. What kind of successes have you guys found and what types of strategies work the best?

Looking for some help here as I've been wagering on sports for about 4 years now and still coming up shaky at the end of the weeks.

For me personally, I do take some cappers here seriously and factor that into my decision, but I never blindly follow anyone. I would rather loose a dime based on my own handicapping, than 200 following someone else.

So my advice to you is to come up with something yourself and lower your bets until you find something that is working for you.

I'm not a pro by any means but a few things to me are crystal clear.


1) Shop for the best numbers. A half point in basketball for example is worth about 4% ev.
2) In order to do this you should have some type of live odds service and be a member of 5 sportsbooks min, probably at least ten.
3) Bet a lot of games. If you feel you have a slightly positive ev bet you should take it. I rather be 54/100 in a week then only betting 15 games in a week. I think the number of bets placed should be on average over 100. I don't see any long run sustained success in only betting 30 or less games.
4) The minimum amount to bet should probably be around $500 if you are serious about making money so $25k capital is probably a minimum amount to make realistic money.
5) Follow somebody else's picks. You don't have to go by your own picks or systems to make money. The first four factors are much much more important.

Everyone hits a cold streak, always good to take a break when on one. Best way to make winning picks is to look at the contest threads, there are guys hitting over 60% in the top 5 of nba thread. Take a look at their picks, shop for the best line with a couple of books and local and if you like it as well take it. All you need is to win 2 out of 3, this will make you money over a week, Goodluck.
