So I get the summons a few weeks ago that I'm Standby Juror #1401 the week of 3/16-3/20. Just try to get a hold of somebody over there to reschedule - forget it!

So I twist in the wind for awhile hoping I don't get called that (this) week because this and the conference tourneys are the biggest time of the year for me.

There is no way I'm doing jury duty today or tomorrow. Mon-Tue OK. Wednesday is iffy. It's a huge card to handicap but at least it's not NCAA. And you can keep your Maryland Eastern Shores and your Incarnate Words etc. I just have a huge Stat-Log of results for all 4 Tourneys that I want to maintain. So I don't want to sit in a courtroom from 8:30 to possibly 4:30pm any day this week!

But the first 2 days of the NCAA Tournament? Arrest me next week and hold me in contempt if it pleases you.

So the summons says I'm to check the county website the night before each day this week starting at 4pm.

I check Sunday afternoon. They instruct jurors #926-1058 to appear. I get hopeful, thinking maybe they'll get enough people empaneled before the 1400s.

I check Monday night and they call 1059-1325. I'm like Fuck I'm dead tomorrow!

So on Tuesday I decide I'll go if called the next day.

I go to the site Tuesday night after my poker game. It says, "NO JURORS will be needed for jury duty on WEDNESDAY MARCH 19th
."

NO!!!!!!!!!! (Pure Dread)

I go on the site yesterday at 4pm and it says,

"NO JURORS will be needed for jury duty on THURSDAY - MARCH 19 TH OR ON FRIDAY, MARCH 20TH .

THIS IS THE END OF YOUR CALLING IN PERIOD.

THANK YOU!!
!"

Do I have a lucky horseshoe up my ass or what? :)

Zippy, It was so lame even Vit didn’t respond. :)

Don't laugh, but I was trying to figure out a way to fit his name into the story just to invigorate the thread.
(Vit reads 'invigorate', flexes his popeye forearms and grins)

3 years ago they called me. Got there at 8:30 as ordered. They divide us into groups. About 50 of us in our group to start.

The prosecutor begins, "I know a lot of you watch TV. This is not CSI. This case is about the defendant (points to table across the room) who drove his friend to a hotel where his friend purchased cocaine. Does anyone have a problem with that?

Ceasing the opening I call out, "Why is he on trial and not his friend?"

"His friend has a separate trail."

"OK, so this not being CSI and all, to summarize you are charging this man with driving his friend to a hotel where his friend purchased drugs?"

"Yes."

"Your Honor there's no way I will convict this defendant. May I be excused."

"You may go."

In my car driving home at 9AM :)

Hell of a break, Scott. Hope those good vibes continue throughout the tourney for ya.

6-0 in NCAA yesterday. I went lighter than usual though.
Today I took WVU -4, Northern Iowa -6, and OVER 136 in the Ore-OkSt game. I didn't cap the NBA yet. Tired today.

Glad to hear it.

I got selected and have to go in a few weeks. I hope to not get to the courthouse stage because I know I'll never get picked for a jury so it is a waste of time.

Prosecutor: This case is about these 3 men here accused of robbing a drug store. Before we begin are there any questions?

Prospective Juror: What are we doing here? You caught them. Obviously they are guilty!

Judge: Excuse me sir, what do you do for a living?

Prospective Juror: I'm a pharmacist.

Judge: You're excused.

It's been crazy Michelangelo. I think I'm developing narcolepsy from all the extra hours of work. Caught myself snoring when I thought I was awake at times over the weekend. Tourney got tougher Saturday and Sunday too. I lost 4 of 6 after winning my first 9 in the Round of 64.

Jury duty is about the worst thing possible, I got nailed for it once, I'll never do it again, I'd rather do a day in jail or pay the the $121 fine for not showing up, which isn't enforced in CT anyway.

The best way to avoid it is to never ever under any circumstances register to vote, that's the primary pool of suckers for jury duty.

I don't care about any local elections and as far as presidential your vote doesn't even count in most states with the electoral college in place where your states' votes are virtually locked in before you vote anyway, except for 6 or so states.

Never vote or even register to vote if you want to avoid jury duty !

I believe elections are rigged anyways.
Govt should have people getting unemployment and other entitlements do the jury duty crapola

I always liked Scottstein, wish he still participated around here. He always wanted management to be more proactive in banning posters, which they simply are not. But give it time, we're usually pretty good at weeding out the assholes ourselves.

Happy New Year Scott, may 2020 be a good one.

I don't identify myself as a member of either party, if I were to vote which I would only do on the Presidential level, I'd vote for Trump but it doesn't matter CT's votes are blue and automatically go to whomever winds up being the nearly 80 year old Democratic nominee that can't possibly win the overall election.
The only other office I'd consider voting for is Governor, and maybe Senator anything less than that doesn't matter and I wouldn't even know who was even running.

It seems pretty ridiculous to me for people that just vote for the Democratic or Republican candidate for every office automatically without knowing anything about them other than what party they identify themselves as belonging to.

I can see your point on local elections. When you are talking about the U S congress or higher most or rather almost all have been voting on legislation (or impeachment) straight along party lines regardless of what is best for the country.

I used to think that way but these days the choice is obvious & easy....Communist Democrat traitor that hates their own country or Republican that loves their country & wants the best for it...
