The Rangers have made an agreement in principle to trade Gonzalez to an NL team and will not use him in Tuesday night's game as a result, the Dallas Morning News reports. Peter Gammons is reporting that the team involved is the Expos.

2003 Salary: $13,025,000

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2003/0624/1572399.html

Gonzalez is in the second year of his $24 million, two-year deal he signed to return to Texas before the 2002 season. The Rangers would likely pay most of Gonzalez's remaining salary.

Gonzalez is hitting .286 with 18 homers and 50 RBI.

Who are the Spos trading in return? Guerrero, Vidro and Vazquez in a cost cutting measure? I can see something like that happening....Since MLB owns the Spos, why not have a pseudo-dispersal draft now while it looks kosher.

Probably got the money from Bud Selig. Lord knows he is not putting any into the Brewers.

Wow, can't believe the Expos are picking up this kind of salary. It will really help them beef up that offense though....

I'm sure the expos are not oicking up more than a few million ($5MM tops) in the deal, probably trading 2 minor leagers. Texas said before the season the wanted to slash payroll, and every little bit helps.

Could be a real boost especially since they play games in Juan's homeland.

Since Texas is prob gonna pay him this years salary, maybe montreal is thinking of a swap/trade for next year. Maybe a handfull of young players. Just a thought.

He has final say on the trade so it might not go through. He has 72 hours to decide.

This guy will put up descent #s from May to Sept. When Oct. rolls around, he disappears.
He's also been up and down with injuries:

2000: 115 games
2001: 140
2002: 70
2003: 63 of 74...& Still nursing a groin and sore elbow

This guys NOT worth the $$$. Expos should go after I-Rod.

I never get it with these guys, why stay in a place like Texas where losing is endemic and turn down a chance to play for a winner, one that plays in your homeland no less??? I mean it can't be about money, he is going to get paid no matter where he goes. Strange really, they like to pretend they are just an average Joe and want all this "quality" time with the family. Whatever, you make $12 mil a year you can spend the next 40 years with them. Instead he will probably fester in a deteriorating position with a team of minor leaguers when Texas is done dumping salaries.

Have you ever seen one mid-season trade make the difference in winning or losing a Championship? (besides Babe Ruth). This means nothing an aging ol veteran, whopeeee! nice try Expos. I mean in retrospect, how good is a scout if you can't keep the players (80's)....just something to consider
