Eddie Murray the player of the 80's?

Sorry to inform you, but it was Dwight "Dewey" Evans.

Eddie did have a brillant decade though.

Boggs, Brett and Mattingly are good canidates too. I think defense puts Schmidt over the top
though.

You gotta be kidding me,lol. Evans was a solid player , great in some years but no Eddie Murray

Murray A.L.
Schmidt N.L.

Murray was the best RBI man of his time, 2nd all-time in grand slams , from 1981 to 1986 he was magnificent, this was nearing the end of the dead ball 80s era...Before steroids and smaller parks...

And he had the coolest batting stance to boot,lol....

Pretty stinking even. The real point I am trying to make here is very very few even would consider Dwight Evans to have anything close to these numbers of the GREAT Eddie Murray, a first ballot HOF'ER. Throw in Dwights nine Gold Gloves brought on by possibly the greatest all-around throwing arm of all-time, and it is insane that Evans is COMPLETELY off the HOF ballot. Huge disgrace. Great performance in postpseason also, great clutch hitter, and a first class guy. Agree, would rate him borderline HOF material, but to be off the ballot after 3 years of voting due to a low percentage of votes is disturbing to me and most Bosox fans. Quite possibly the most underrated player in the last 25 years.
ps- Darrell Evans, who Dwight sometimes is confused with

, is also vastly underrated.

__________

boys, how about Andre Dawson? This guy IMO is the best player of the 80's, and the most underrated.. Forget about Dewey, who played for a big market like the Red Sox.. Hawk played for the lowly Montreal Expos for most of his career who had NO exposure. And to top it all off, he played on a shitty team, and to have produced all those numbers can only say that he was great, and had he played with better players and a good team, those numbers would be 15% higher, thus, making him have way better numbers than Dewey, OR Murray. And don't forget, defensively, there was no one better than Dawson. He had great range out in the cow, and a rifle for an arm.

Player of the 80's??

Andre Dawson...

And the above won how many World Series Championships?. That is why you play the game. Kirby Puckett is the man. Thank you. End of discussion.

I don`t doubt that...I am very aware of Dewey Evans , and always liked him and no doubt he is very underated...Mainly because he was never THE MAN on Boston, always 2nd or 3rd best player it seemed..Rice, Lynn, Yaz, Fisk, but no doubt he had an absolute cannon...

I wasn`t happy to see him become an Oriole , he should have finished his career in Boston, I like players to stay with their teams, he was a Red Sox player...Hall of Fame, probably not...Off the top of my head Dewey didn`t have the pop early in his career , I think that hurt his overall numbers....

Top 5 all time arms in rightfield..

Clemente
Evans
Parker
Guerrero
hmm #5 maybe Jesse Barfield (off the top of my head)

Well Puckett didn`t play the entire 80`s neither did Donny Baseball for that matter..

Murray won the ring in`83 thank you very much...If you guys want to break this down even further, I will start by saying Murray played on alot of teams that didn`t have alot of offensive numbers, besides him!

Evans played in Fenway, alot of "wall ball" Baltimore`s cavernous Memorial Stadium wasn`t a homerun haven either....

Dawson wasn`t as consistent, I think that damn rug really hurt his career Sick...Another great choice though!

Murray still gets the nod, sorry boys..
