This season, batters facing him for the first time in the lineup are a combined 0 for 44 against him with a few walks scattered in. Second time, they are 0 for 38 with a few more walks scattered in. I'm not 100% sure on the numbers, but I am 100% sure that no batter has gotten a hit against him the first two times they've seen him. That is mindblowing.
If I play this one, it'll be a 1st 5 innings play since I don't trust Florida's bullpen. Volquez has pitched better lately, but he was an absolute disaster earlier this year. He has also given up 4, 3, and 4 earned runs in the first inning of his home starts this year (respectively). If the Fish can get 2-3 runs on the board in the first 5, you have to love the chances of the 1st 5 play cashing.
