Santana can thank the Indians for him not winning the award this time...they beat him like a drum in 07.

DEFINITELY A 3 HORSE RACE NOW as C.C. go's to 18-7 today, 3.19 ERA. (Wang, Beckett, and CC)

Sox may baby Beckett this week, but playing in Boston helps his cause.

Wang isn't even in the top 10 in era, would be a disgrace if he won.

Between CC and Beckett, Beckett with a slightly better record but CC has way more innings and in reality a significantly better era (when factoring in the ballparks they pitch in).

I give it to CC.

*funny when you check Carmona's numbers he's really right there, just couldn't see him getting enough votes to win over CC.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

Good stuff Wil. The 1999 Stanely Cup Finals is very relevant to the 2007 Cy Young Award race.

I'd put up some irrelevant pictures from your generation, but they only have black and white ;)

Josh Beckett became the first 20 game winner in the majors since 2005 tonight essentially clinching the AL Cy young Aaward at 20-6 with a 3.14 ERA. The closest competitor is Cleveland Indians lefty C.C. Sabatia at 18-7 with a 3:19 ERA. Pretty much out of it are the Yanks C.M. Wang at 18-6 with an inflated ERA of 3:82 and the Indians Fausto Carmona at 17-8 with a nifty 3:07 ERA. Justin Verlander despite a record of 17-6 stands no chance with an ERA of 3:70. The closers are all longshots.

As far as innings pitched goes Sabathia has 40 more innings pitched but also has 5 more starts than Beckett. C.C. has yielded 19 homers to 15 for Josh. CC has 205 K's and 36 walks allowed while Becektt has 188 k's 40 walks allowed. The problem Sabithia faces is he will probably end up with max of 19 wins unless the Indians start him twice in the final eight games.

Beckett needs to win his last start to clinch as a 21-6 record with an ERA in in the low 3.00's is going to demand winning the Award, especially with no other 20 game winners in the league.

However winning the Cy Young Award will mean little to Red Sox fans if their team doesn't win the World Series.

wil.

He won their biggest game of the year and clinched the Cy Young ,barring a collapse by Boston this coming week it is his award...he deserved it too, he started and finished this season very strong.

Boston is catching a slight break down there in Tampa, with the D-Rays missing key players...last nights results , gaining a game back should keep NY at bay now....Yankees moved Clemens back now, looks like they're thinking WC and get ready for post season more than pushing it.
