One was an NFL Pro Bowler, the other, a big league baseball player.
But, this Saturday, Jose Canseco and Vai Sikahema will clash in the boxing ring.
And while the Las Vegas oddsmakers have Canseco as a 3 - to - 1 favorite, at first glance, this boxing matchup doesn't look very good for Vai Sikahema. His opponent is 7 inches taller, and 50 pounds heavier. However, Vai's got a surprise waiting for Canseco.
"Vili's coming out, and he's going to work the crowd into a frenzy like only he knows how, nobody knows how to do that better than Vili," said Sikahema.
Vili and Vai are cousins, and Vai's flying Vili out to fire up the crowd, intimidate Canseco, and help get Vai's blood moving.
"It's bringing the Warrior spirit to him and how he prepares himself to go to battle, because I come up and beat the drum and do the haka and it'll really help prepare him to go out and take this guy's head off," said Vili.
And Vai is just as confident as Vili.
"We're going to tire him in the first round, and then his arms are going to get loopy, then we're going to get inside and start chopping him down," said Vai.
"Vai wants to bring it on, he wants to show that we're Polynesian and coming there to war and Jose better be ready for that because we're coming too."
As for a prediction. Vili says it's gonna finish quickly.
"2nd round. Vai's gonna knock him out."
And with Vili in Vai's corner, the odds feel like they're changing.
Not only will Vili be performing before the fight, they'll also have fire knife dancers and a whole posse of Polynesian NFL players.
And, Vai says he's planning to have Hawaii 5-0 played when he enters the arena.

Vai won, first round ( i guess you could call it a TKO) ref called it after vai knocked canseco on his butt twice.

Read it from a boxing forum so not verified.

Jose Canseco gets bashed in attempt to make splash in ring

By MICHAEL O'KEEFFE and CHRISTIAN RED
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITERS

Saturday, July 12th 2008, 7:05 PM

ATLANTIC CITY - The former Bash Brother got his head bashed in Saturday night.

In nearly less time than it takes to round the bases after one of his moon-shot homers, Jose Canseco was knocked out by former NFL return man Vai Sikahema in their celebrity boxing match that was equal parts "Saturday Night Fever" meets "Road House." How's this for star power - 1993 Phillies World Series goat Mitch Williams was ringside for the main event.

Asked after the fight if there were any surprises, Sikahema said, "That it didn't finish in the first 30 seconds."

The partisan Sikahema crowd - he ended his NFL career with the Eagles - of 1,300 who filed into Bernie Robbins minor-league baseball stadium saw Canseco walk in from right field with a tiny entourage including his visibly nervous girlfriend Heidi Northcutt. Canseco, dressed in a black tank top, black shorts and red head gear then sat beneath the ring and watched as Sikahema's 15 family members and friends performed a haka - or Polynesian war dance. With painted faces, and native Tongan dress, they hissed at Canseco, pounded their chests and screamed. Northcutt rubbed Canseco's shoulders.

"That was worth the $50 just to see that," one female fan ringside said of the pre-fight extravaganza.

But it was hardly worth it for Canseco, who boasted at Friday's weigh-in that he has "incredible knock-out power." All he did, however, was get knocked into next week. As he climbed out of the ring, his face sweaty and red, he was jeered with expletives and steroid taunts as he slumped toward the right field exit under the stands.

It was quite a different scene Friday, as Canseco stood toe-to-toe with Sikahema in the spotlight at the Providence nightclub at the Tropicana, his black tank top barely covering a tanned, hairless chest so massive that Clear Channel might be tempted to erect a billboard on it.

I wonder if I lost every bet for a year if my bankroll would fall as far as Jose's:nohead:

Size isn't everything.

Love the trash talk too -

"The only thing that surprised me was that it didn't end in the first 30 seconds," Sikahema said.
