OK, we cant wait untile the last second to break down this fight. Spinch, youre killing me with that weighing in at the last second stuff. I find myself starting to lean towards making a play on Jones in this. I thought to myself after the Byrd vs Holy fight that if Byrd ever fought Ruiz I would make a big play on Byrd.
That being the case why wouldnt I take Jones over Ruiz? Byrd is a Jones wannabee and Jones has far superior skills compared to Byrd. So it just comes down to the weight. Ruiz has that lunging jab that can be very effective but other than that I dont think that highly of him. The only question that it comes down to is can Jones deal with the weight differential.

Spinch, talk to us. What are your fight guys telling you about this? Youre hotter than hell right now.

I don't know too much about these boxers, but what are the chances that Jones will win by KO? The odds of that look pretty tasty to me.

Can't see Ruiz getting too many effective shots on Jones.
Even with the added weight, which won't amount to much by the time the bell rings, Jones will just be too quick for Ruiz.

Can't see a KO for Jones though, but, i imagine he will be peppering Ruiz pretty good.

Going with Jones by decision.

Good luck guys, should be a fun one.

I dont know why I didnt think of that. If Im gonna bet Jones I should bet that he wins by dec. He aint gonna knock him out.

should be a good fight. im wondering if jones will have trouble with ruiz's style

i just keyed a long diatribe on this one and got kicked out before i could post....if i get some energy and time,i`ll try again...that sucks...it was a long post...sorry...a little later ..

almly-you got an e-mail i can reach you at....i don`t feel i can do justice with a short explanation...and i don`t think i have the energy to put up another long post and have it zap on me...i`ll tell you where you can read my take and some other boxing guys stuff as well....i don`t have a strong lean, and i appear to be going against the grain here...g.l.

Copied from RR
Ruiz +183: Since Friday's are slow here's my opinion on the fight Sat. Ruiz is 30 lbs heavier and has much more incentive in this fight. Jones is guaranteed $10m for the fight while Ruiz gets $2.5m pending pay-per-view sales. Jones hasn't done a thing to promote this fight. During the weigh in Ruiz's manager Stone claims he was sucker punched by Jones' trainer. Stone was taken to the hospital and later released. Ruiz can be one of the most boring boxers in the world to watch. I went to his last fight against Kirk Johnson at the Mandalay Bay. Ruiz won this as a 2-1 dog when Johnson was dq for low blows. Ruiz does anything to win. He'll grab, clutch, head butt, whatever it takes. Ruiz is one of two men along with Riddick Bowe to knock down Evander Holyfield. Ruiz was 1-1-1 against Holyfield although he should have been 3-0. Ruiz's biggest problem will be the quickness of Jones. Jones will try to stay away from Ruiz and Ruiz may not be able to catch him. Jones was dq for a fight previously. It wouldn't surprise me if either fighter is dq in this one. Jones may dominate if he can stay away from Ruiz but my money will be on Ruiz. Ruiz is a Don king Fighter. It will be awfully tough for Jones to get a decision.

raider...just to be correct...bert cooper had holi down also....g.l. and nice post...with all the shenanigans going on prior to the fight, and jones` threat to have "his boys' at ringside in case ruiz gets dirty and starts throwing him around),i wouldn`t be surprised if this thing gets outta hand....if frustration starts to get the best of ruiz,or roy starts getting dominated,i think you may see something strange happen....and the point about don king was right on...remember,don king has both ruiz and holifield and it was in his best interests to have the trilogy....i doubt that don king has control over roy if he wins...that is enough to temper my decision regarding taking roy...you have a situation where you may have a track meet,a sloppy fight full of clinching and dirty tactics....the refs have to decide whether they like the boxer-ring general or the guy that forces the fight...totally subjective...and i don`t like, nor do i trust two of the judges(duane ford and jerry roth).....lots of things to think about in this one...

I'm sorry, but anybody that thinks Ruiz won his last fight with HOlyfield is stupid.

Ruiz fought a clean fight in his last fight with Johnson and won. Spinch, email me, let me know if theres anything on the undercard that catches your eye.

almly...if you got my e-mail,you know that i really like winky wright, but there`s no way i`m laying -700....hell,no way was i laying -475 when it opened....no way do i see wright losing...i do know that candelo has never been stopped, and wright is not a big puncher...both fairly tall...might be a 12 rounder(over 10.5 might be worth a look if the odds aren`t ridiculous)...i was also looking at al cole-david izon over 8.5 rds(izon looks shot....cole is 38 but has a tendency to hang around in his fights unless he`s fighting a top guy, which izon isn`t anymore)...was also looking at jan piet bergman,44-3 and fighting in his native so africa....vs jawaid khalig(20-1 from the u.k.)...bergman`s losses were to zab judah, kostya tszyu and a tough, tough brit named junior witter who is being groomed for a huge united kingdom grudge match with phenom ricky hatton....and some think witter has a legit shot...well,neither bergman or khalig is what you`d call a huge puncher...could be another boxing match....got bergman at +200....also played the over in rounds...was also looking at over 8.5 in the mo harris oquendo bout...harris might be goosed after winning that silly heavyweight tourney...but,oquendo has shown some power recently...a light lean...i might not play it myself...most of these are just opinions(sort of forcing these,a little)..and you are laying odds in most of them(something i don`t like doing)..there are some interesting ones, much more playable,in the next couple months...i`ll put `em up in the near future...

Sphincter- Always a pleasure to see your boxing opinions.
Almly- Ruiz was losing on two of the score cards to Johnson before the dq. the fight got ugly because of the low blows.

thanks raiders....ditto on your football...i just did something impulsive, and put a small wager on roy jones by k.o.,t.k.o. or d.q. at +285....nobody thinks it can happen...i`m not sure a d.q. is out of the question....or a cut or swelling....roy`s punches are slashing type punches....just a hunch....a small wager...not suggesting it to anyone...remember,ruiz has only been put down by tua....just a whim...

OK, I guess the move is no move tomorrow night.
Actually, if memory serves me correctly I dont think that is correct about 2 of the judges having Johnson winning. I thought they had it close but I remember that they had Ruiz winning.
I didnt even think it was close. Johnson did absolutely nothing and Ruiz kept landing that lunging left jab on his chin all night.

Anyway, Johnson is horrible and Ruiz isnt that great either. I guess I'll just play hoops this weekend.

I didnt get any email from you Spinch unless I thought it was junk mail and deleted it by accident. I was curious what your boxing guys are thinking about the fight.

Almly, I think you are correct that they had Ruiz winning and Johnson really sucked that night. But I think not much people give Ruiz credit and he's not that bad of a fighter either. But I think if Jones decided to move up, he must be confident in winning. Normally Jones is really calculated when he makes big decisions like this. I think if Jones fought Lewis, Tua, or the Klitschko brothers then for sure I would lay the farm on them. That's why I think Jones should win because this is a very calculated gamble on his part and he is a way better boxer than Ruiz. The only thing going for him is his size. I don't know if you remember the fight when Conn fought Louis and Conn was kicking his ass for 13 rounds and got cocky and this fight is only a 12 rounder. If Jones is anything like Conn and I think he should be then Jones should be able to kick his ass. I definitely don't think Ruiz would have beaten Louis.

I should have said that if two points weren't deducted from Johnson that he would have been ahead on two of the cards. Johnson was deducted a point in rounds 1 and 7 and DQ in the 10th. According to the score cards Ruiz was winning by 1 pt on two of the cards. I was at the fight and in my opinion Johnson was winning.

raiders....you can bet your booty that ruiz was going to win that johnson fight(short of a johnson stoppage).....cortez is shaky as a ref as it is,a latino to boot(yes,i`m saying he was probably biased, like every other human being),and king stood to lose his tie to the heavyweight championship if ruiz lost..some of those low blows weren`t even borderline and ruiz was flopping around on the canvas like charlie tuna..anybody ever watch thai boxing?....these guys hit and kick each other directly in the groin...with all the low kicks and especially the knees, these guys are hit in the nuts time and time again in bouts..are their protectors so much better than those used in pro boxing?....absolutely not..i`ve seen quite a few thai matches...don`t ever remember a display like ruiz put on....ruiz was going to win that match by hook or crook....that`s why i downsized my roy wager...in a nutshell, the king factor...if this is a sloppy,trackmeet/clinchfest, scoring will be subjective...and if even remotely close, king gets the edge...and remember,in my opinion, judges jerry roth and duane ford are shaky(if you get my drift)...

i`m wondering if roy gets thrown around and fouled, whether there is a chance that ruiz will get d.q`ed?....keep an eye on how dirty this fight gets, and how willing the ref will be to deduct points....my gut is,ruiz will get away with murder...
