Mr Jones: You like the Tigers today? Do you just play bases or any other sports?

Thanks SSI,

This all hinges on Maddox today. As I said we are exactly where he was last year at this time. I feel the Cubs win big with always the chance they don't win at all. Hope I don't eat a one run win crow today. LOL. Now you got me worried. If these write-ups continue to produce losers, I will just post the game only. But I find it fun to write my opinions and hope no one tries to take them to the bank. GL to you today sir.

Mr. Jones, i went against your brewers today, did you decide to pass on them today?? i feel the same as you do, piazza can jack him, even into this wind.. it would take a tremendous effort by seo today against you... his era against the cubs is 3.00 and maddux's against the mets is 3.82.. im going to watch the game, so ill be pulling for ya..

Quick handicapping question as well, would appreciate your response. I'm new to handicapping but one factor I like to play on is emotion. I do not think it is any coincidence that both the Yanks and Sox lost the game before they face each other in a series. I know in other sports, look ahead games are common. Is it true in baseball? If so do you cap based on this at all?

rscl31,

Interesting and good question...the last one is. I'll get back to you later on that for sure. Something I'd enjoy discussing. I got to get a bite to eat and soak in the hottub a bit and see how the Cubbies do.

As for Bonderman, yea at first glance it looks decent. I need another dog I'm looking for today. Big caveat though...very big for me...I've been on Bonderman two times in a row with two big L's. Now he pitched well in that game at home where the bullpen failed him. He was +107 that night too. Not well last time out. Both pens liable to sink their ships tonight. That's probably where the game will be won or lost. But always look at home dogs. Last year the tigers were 21-53 -16.50 units as home dogs...ugh. We feel this is not the same club. The catcher is enough to offset quite a bit of that himself.

I'll get back with an answer and another pick or two in a couple of hours.

Oh and yea, I do play other sports....just haven't posted plays. Thanks for your interest.

rscl31,

To answer your question about emotion, I would say no.This game ain't driven by emotion all that often. But if you could have pulled out a rivalry where it might...you did.

There are just too many games...every night, and I can only speak from a minor league experience. You are concerned with 1] winning or losing tonight's game 2] your own stats and performance and at that level at least, depending on the standings and such, not necessarily in that order.

I'd say it's coincidence or more of a factor of the sweep angle [talked about in here yesterday I think] than anything else.

Tonight I would consider when the Yankees arrived at the airport this morning after the night game in Chicago; the drive home; were there any family problems to deal with [guarantee you somebody had some]; Posada probably sitting; things like that. It's a lot easier to check into a hotel and go to sleep then have the wife pick you up at the airport then make the drive home to the burbs and hammer you with family shit. First day home after a road trip can be a bitch. Remember Yanks lost an hour in time zones too. That is something to look at.

I'm sure though that the great rivalries are important [especially the one you mention] but this is still a game where the primary battle is between the pitcher and catcher and does not depend on how hard the grunts in the trenches are fighting it out. It may be 9-1 in the ninth but it's your BA your thinking about. It's just a different game. I've never seen a pro baseball club take tonight's opponent lightly. Nobody ever looked at tonight's opponent as +185 [now we however need to look at them] but tommorrow's as an even money game and played accordingly.

About the Tigers game, I'm passing which doesn't mean it's not a good play. I may pass entirely now that I have a +118 in my pocket and like my other play. Worst case scenario for me if I sit tight is win a few bucks and if game #2 comes in it's a good night. Why risk losing at all? Many will say that is too conservative and I respect that. But that is what I am inclined to do unless something else jumps out at me. There is one at least worth a good look at tonight IMO.

Remember bases is a marathon and not a sprint. GL and remember my opinions are just that and may just be a bunch of bull. I do not profess to be anykind of expert. Protect your unit. That is the main rule.

You are correct about the first game back after a road trip.. Nice points on being conservative, if your not willing to walk away a winner then there is no way you can be one.. "Up and Pull" method has some merits as well.. wonder if you had any opinions on the cards/brewers or padres/dbacks tonight?. notice you said that you liked one more game but didnt know if you would play it..

Would you concur that emotion plays a factor in other sports though?

SSI,
The game I like is SEA Pineiro at TEX Drese.
Texas decent homedog in this spot. Pineiro historical poor record in Texas and awful so far this year and Drese always had potential and can be good then again he can be awful.
He's been OK in a few innings so far. I don't have this game yet. And won't be able to get back to the computer for about 30 minutes.

As for the emotion question. Sure it plays a role in the team sports. Bases is a team sport but in some ways it isn't.

emotion definately more in football, you better play with emotion or your head will get ripped off.. i looked very hard at texas myself.. but hasnt pinerio pitched pretty well career wise against texas... if i played it however, it would be texas..

Certainly means something SSI,

I was aware of the Drese numbers not Pineiro. Still Pineiro has not pitched real well so far. He is coming around. But these two went head to head in Seatle on April 14th with almost identical records while they were in there. Both pitched well. Seattle pulled that one out 4-2. That adds a bit of the revenge factor which others consider more than I usually do. Going half a unit. Big edge to Texas bats at home and the price is right. For my play below it is of course one unit. Thanks SSI.

Sorry guys just one of those days when I don't see a play I like on the early card. I won't force one. Also some kind of evil crap has taken over my computer. Need to kill it. Maybe later. Good Luck with your plays.
